put a password requirement for windows. My darling little stepchildren  keep disobeying the rules of usage on the computer and getting viruses and going places they shouldn't. I'm not going to let them use it anymore. They have been warned repeatedly and think I don't know they are getting on late at night and what they are doing. :worried:

Have they found any good porn sites? ;)

j/k

A basic windows password for when you turn the computer on will not keep them out. All you have to do is click cancel, and your computer still starts up. You need some sort of program to block kids, but they usually know more than the parent so they can get around them.

You can get software called "netnanny" that helps.
what operating system do you use?

also, make sure you have up to date virus protection!!

I don't think my step kids can. They are not aces in school. LOL. I'll look for a program today then. Little snarkies. I'll show them...lol.

Depending on the age of the child and there computer know how those can be a joke and lock parents in to false sence of security.

They can't hack this

Holy cow that is cool superqt!

Thanks for the advice guys. The "offenders" are 11 and 13, and I'm not going to say a word, I'm just going to print out where they have been, put software on the computer and then tape the page to the door of their bedroom.

I had to remove the tv from their room because they were leaving it on all night and watching R rated movies. They were grounded and had it on anyway. Too bad you can't whip kids anymore, or HRS comes and gets them...lol.

It depends on which version of windows you're using as to how to set a password. Assuming you're running some variant of NT, look in users and passwords in control panel.

You can alway put a password in teh BIOS so the machine will ask for it before it ever looks for an operating system to start......that would be your best bet

look for "to enter setup hit XXX" usually delete of F10, then in the system setup(BIOS) you can apply a boot password to the machine, without this the machine will never even get to an operating system!!!

I thought of mentioning that until I envisioned the likely ensuing thread in a couple of weeks' time.

What is the likely ensuing thread? "Help! I forgot the password." ???
