computer ip addys

Will my computer's ip addy be the same one everytime I use it everyday? Or can it change at all? I checked the login history of my email account and the ip addy was different like every 2 weeks or so. I have had the same DSL service too.

A DSL will in most cases give you a different IP addy everytime you connect. It's called dynamic. While a cable/T-1 will usually give you the same one (static).

Cable is the same as DSL, the servers lease addresses for a certain period of time based on their expected usage, usually a lease is up after 1-2 months, but can be as short as 1-2 weeks.

If you're on a dia-up, you IP probably changes everytime you log in, repeating itself once every 24 sessions (statistically speaking).

What the shit? I did that and it said

"WARNING: Open ports found, please run Security Port Scanner."

Is that bad? My computer has been acting strange lately, and recently I accidentaly downloaded 3 trojan viruses...

What can I do? Firewall?

I have DSL

LOL!

I'm sure this site simply runs an ICMP app nailing the commonly exploited ports, most of which are open as a defacto standard for most desktop OS's.
Telnet, FTP, HTTP, SNMP blah blah blah.

Most end-users have little to no use for a firewall, especially if you don't have a static IP.

If you really want to run a scan, go to this site.

www.grc.com

Go to the Shields Up! page and run their scan.

The one off of IPChicken is trying to get you to buy their software.

DSL is more secure than cable, so I wouldn't worry to much.
