so i had to start from scratch use the recovery cd for my laptop. Anyways now I can't download the latest version of explorer cause I get page errors. Anyone got ideas on how I can get it. Karma for help :qt:

Did the recovery CD reformat and reinstall or just overwrite files? You might have a mix of old and new system files which fubars a lot.

what version of windows is it? and what's your current version of IE? and what's the exact error message?
win98

i dunno how you check the verion of ie

an error has occred on the script of this page

win98? that laptop should be blown up. You can only do windows update with IE anyway.

is it only microsoft sites you can't reach?
did the recovery cd install an antivirus program (like norton or mcafee) and a firewall?

if it's only MS sites and you don't have antivirus, go to pack.google.com and get their update software (skip the google stuff, get the 6 month free antivirus and the adaware, scan your PC to make sure you haven't picked up a virus already. Get Firefox there too.)

go to options, set everything to default. otherwise shut of scripts.

Tools,
Internet Options,
Advanced,

here's something to try
-------------------------------------------------------
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type " Regsvr32 urlmon.dll ", (without the quotes) and then click OK.
When prompted with the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll" succeeded message, click OK.

also try
Tools / Options / Advanced, turn off the checkbox for "automatically check for internet explorer updates" and restart IE.

2 other things from the MS website

2. Close all instances of Internet Explorer.
3. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Internet Options.
4. Click the Advanced tab.
5. Under Browsing, click to clear the Enable third-party browser extensions (requires restart) check box.
6. Restart Internet Explorer.
If the issue persists, follow these steps:
1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. Click Tools, and click Internet Options.
3. Click the Advanced tab.
4. Under Browsing, click to select the Disable Script Debugging check box.
5. Click OK to close all windows, and then restart the computer.
