Computer help please

Could it be several things, hard to tell with your description.

If it's not softwate related (and this alone can be LOADS of things: Virus, Drivers, OS, patches); you may want to have the following hardware related things checked:

1. Faulty Powersupply: Have you updated your computed recently? If you added more devices (new video card, new hard drive, etc), your Power supply might not be to par with the new demand. If it's too old, it is also a possibility. In any case, you should aim at a power supply with at least 400W rating

2. Overheating: A major problem and one we will see a lot in the coming months: How is the cooling for your PC working? most new modern PCs have a therman sensor that shuts the PC down to avoid heat damage. If it was OK, make sure the inside is clean enough (rotorts, fans, etc) to actually blow air.

3. Memory failure: one of the things hard to diagnose. Memory failure normally cause data corruption, when the data being corrupted is OS data, all sort of crappy things can happen.

Just a couple of ideas.

if it's a Windows box type "eventvwr" from the run line ( w/o the ""). Then go to the system events & look for errors. Google search whatever you find

She's in Finland so I don't think summer will have much of an effect there :p

But the rest of the suggestions are the most logical. I'm not sure how computer savy you are, but you can re-seat your memory modules. If you have two, take one out and see if it happens. If it continues, take the module out and put the other in and see. If it doesn't happen then you know that you have a bad memory module. If it still happens, move on to the power supply. Restart the computer and go into bios by hitting the delete button during boot. You should have some sort of health status in there that shows the computers temperature. Watch to see if it rises while the computer idles. If not, you could still have a faulty connection within the power supply itself. I'd have your friend bring an extra one to see if that fixes it. If not, you're probably looking at a motherboard replacement. Before the mobo replacement though, you may wanna have your friend also bring some memory modules to make sure that both haven't faulted.

Have fun!! :p

My computer keeps restarting by itself. There shouldn´t be viruses.
Wtf is wrong with it?

Open the case of the computer, check to make sure all fans are running properly, especially the one located on the top of the cpu. Second, if you can swap out the memory or, remove one memory module (if you have more then one) at a time. Run the machine with one memory module at a time. See if it reboots. If it doesn't then there is your problem.

You should also clean out your computer of dust once in a while.

What kind of computer is it? Brand?

I'll put money on a dirty fan. My comp does the same thing; once I clean the processor fan it won't restart on it's own anymore.
