Ok So I had to install a internal CD writer in my girls parents computer (don't you hate being asked to do this shit)
SO I've installed about a dozen writers with no problem. Anyway's the install went fine up to the point of adding software. It would keep coming up no compatable writer (ez creater 4)
So I check in system properties and sure enough there's issues.
DMA Isn't checked on the HD, and the PCI system management bus has a yellow check along with an unknown device.
So that sent a flag up in my head that the mobo drivers haven't been installed.
Here's my question: I assume the mobo drivers need to be installed in order for the burner to work because it relies on UDMA.
How bad am I going to screw this computer up installing mobo drivers a year after they last formatted it?! Granted the computer guy should of installed it, and I can't believe it ran this long without them installed. But I've never tried installing mobo drivers this late in an install.
The CD writer reads CD's along with being a slave to the Master CD-rom. To me the computer should have a lot more issues running this long without those drivers. I don't think they use USB devices and maybe that's why they haven't noticed.
BTW is a win98 install on a P-III Dell dememsions 4100
Any thoughts? Am I correct in thinking the mobo drivers need to be installed? Under system performance it says "system is running optimal" instead of DOS-compatabilty mode like I expected. And that's what is throwing me off.
Thanks
