computer crashed, lost digital photos

by crashed what do you mean?....

if windows is damaged and you cant repair you could try installing that hard drive into another computer with a working windows installation. You can then just view the drive in "my computer" and copy your files somewhere. (ie. burn them to a cd, thumb drive, etc.)

YOu have to set the jumper on the hard drive to the "slave" setting.

my pc wouldnt start and cousin came over and said i had to wipe the hard drive which he did.

reformatted the hard drive i believe.

im only concerned about the pics

if that shit is reformatted already your only option now would be to send your hard drive to a data recovery company. Otherwise..your shit is gone. Its just waiting there to be writen over, there is no way you can personally access your data after you format it.

Not necessarily.

I had the same problem about 3 years ago (do a search on my name and you find the threads). I ended up reformatting and reinstalling Windows XP all over again. Magically, some of the old files were still on the C: drive.

Just do it and then click on the Explore tab and browse around... you may find them.

I work in IT and I have installed windows xp probably 200 times...never once have I seen old files sitting on the c drive after reformatting...no way in hell.

when you format a drive alll those 1's and 0's lose their associations and just wait to be written over.

I thought the same too... but Dial Tone and jnuts proved me wrong... and the shit (about 70%) was still there.
