Complimenting chicks on their appearances

Okay folks, I got a serious question, and this time its actually relevant because I actually did this about a week ago. So this is something based on something I've done, not on something I havent done yet.

Anyways, a girl was showing me her senior pictures, (at some get together after church) and she was wondering about which ones looked good, and I said, "dont worry, you look good in all of them" she said thanks. It wasnt too awkward, but then again I dont really have any strong feelings for her, so that made it easier to say.

Anyways, when is it appropriate to compliment a girl on her appearances? I know usually its not good to do it to girls that you dont know, but for girls that you do know, when is it cool?

For example, say there was this girl u didnt know that well, but u talked to her a few times a couple years back, and then u bump into her at college, is it okay to tell her she looks great?

Is it okay to tell a friend that you are attracted to that they look great. Or will that only make you look desperate or wanting, and make her want to back away?

Does giving chicks compliments help you score any points with them? when is it cool to do? how well do you have to know them, to tell them that they look good?

As do most guys..

As long as you keep it high level, respectfull and not lascivious, and
not making too much of a deal about it.

Saying that a woman looks HOT or starring at her cleavage and saying YOWSA
should be limited to those that are sluts or that you know want to be attention whored after.. example: 90 of the women on this site..

Razorguns is exactly right. Say it when you mean it, but make sure you don't come accross as creepy.

A few weeks ago i was at a bar with some friends. I went up to an absolutely gorgeous woman and told her "I don't mean to bother you, and I'm not trying to hit on you, but i just wanted to tell you that i think you are absolutley beautiful." After that i left. She was just hot, and i wanted to tell her.

Interestingly enough, about 20-30 mins later she walks up to me taps me on the back and asks, "Why?" I respond, "Why, what?" "Why aren't you hitting on me." This led to about 1 1/2 - 2 hours of talking and quite a few drinks. At the end of the night, she gave me her number and i put her in a cab. Oh yeah, she had a few key kisses and nibbles for my neck and ear on the way into the cab.
