Competing In My First Meet!!!

Ok well it's only a thing that my buddies and I are doing as a way to bring friends together in a different kind of way. We will be doing the big 3... We got forms and everything done up... should be fun!

Anyway.. I just wanted a little info on diet and training for the week heading up to the meet this Saturday.

Basically.... I was going to not do any deads or squats 2 days prior, so that I'm fresh for the meet, but I'm thinking maybe this isn't a good idea? Also for diet. I was worried that eating a big meal full of carbs before hand may not sit too well either, and might not be a good idea, as my abdominal region will be concentrating on breaking all this food down.

What are your guys' thoughts on this, and what do you do before a competition or meet?

Any tips/tricks that'll help me out would be great!

Thanks,

S.

i take it pretty easy the week of the meet, this past meet i did my speed benches the sunday before and i dont think i worked out again till the meet. drink lots or water, load up on some good carbs.

Thanks man...

if you're not worried about making a certain weigh class, eat as much good quality food as you can and rest like liftbig said

i never do anything for about 7-8 days before a meet

Well at 161lbs... I pulled 375! Maybe not a huge feat... but for the first time out, I am pretty happy with that! (keep in mind I don't train as a powerlifter at all...) :D It's really starting to grow on me though... I love the feeling of pulling higher and higher numbers...

Thanks guys... hopefully I can get stronger as time goes on. To be honest... I am TOTALLY new to this whole PL deal... the strongman stuff REALLY interests me. I dunno what the deal is, but I'm just REALLY excited my numbers etc... and seeing them go up.

I've been doing the 5x5 routine for 4 - 5 weeks now, and am getting stronger, but would like to get more equipment (bands, boards etc...) and see what the deal is. I am weak as a bastard in the bench right now, and want to get that up as well... I'm going to go into sponge mode for a bit there, to hopefully soak up as much training knowledge as I can. I'll be reading a lot of B Folds posts, as well as the other strongmen, and will hopefully get some numbers goin' in the next year or so. We'll see.

I just want to give you all a big thanks in advance for posting everything that you've done... this is kinda my safe heaven (Haven?) for info, and am really excited to get into this.
