I heard there is this place called Ward (I think) that is up in the mountains where the roads are blocked off and burnt out cars all over the place and the locals hold a "toughman contest" every year..... I heard they hate outsiders and have a ban on any new building in the area to keep people from moving there...

basically heard it is a real shithole with psycho residents...

knew of a place like that in missouri back in the day...

Yeah Ward is a fucked up little redneck mountain town. I haven't been there in years. Don't know too much about the toughman thing as we tend to ignore what they do.

It is a crappy little mining town, lots of them here in Colorado and most of the residents of all of them want to keeps things as they are and don't care too much for expansion. The attempted ban on new buildings was Boulder County wide about 10 years ago though it didn't pass. Haven't heard of the tough man contest either but if you have been out to a bar in any of these types of towns there is one almost every night after 5pm in any of the local bars.
The mining town of Central City fought tooth and nail against the casinos moving in but failed miserably. Most of them are still bitter about it too.

Of course they don't bitch about all the money that gets brought in due to the casinos, just about the casinos. My favorite town up there is Rollins.

I went to H.S. in Mexico, Mo. That town pretty much fits the desciprtion too. Though it may have been down the road in Auxvasse or however you spell it. It was a tiny town with angry residents and meth labs.

I think it is Auxvasse...driven through that area before.

There are some odd towns out that way, that's for sure.

I told PHATchik about Mexico, MO, and she didn't believe me that it was a real town.

i don't know for sure the name of it, it was way out in the boondocs - I used to live out in west county and it was somewhere by the (meremac) river...

peeps used to chase your car in theirs and shoot at your car and shit...

It's real and a bit dated. I went to Missouri Military Academy and the "townies" called us "krauts". My two best friends from there was a huge black guy from Ky. and a chicano from Chicago... I was amazed at the amount of racism in that little town when we were actually allowed to go off campus. The most exciting thing for the local kids to do on weekends was the "Hardees 500" basically drive from Hardees to Hardees, about 2 miles round trip, all night. Good Times.
