College Fucking Sucks!

I'm so sick of dealing with this shit. College is such a fucking money making scam.
The 1st yr I started College I didn't know what the hell I was doing so I used to go and talk to my student counselors and they used to advise me to take classes that I had no need for, and I usually took them because I had no idea what in the hell I was doing.
When I started College it was set up in quarters which came out to be 4 quarters a yr fall, winter, spring, and summer. Now a few yrs ago they decided to change over to semesters like everyone else. So what that means is that all of the credits I took in that period aren't worth shit, so for example say I need 2 credits like I do in PE, and I took weight lifting which was 2 credits back when they used quaters and not semesters which I did. Now the requirement for PE is still 2credits, but because I took it when it was quarters and not semesters it is worth 0.6 credits,,, that is so fucked.
Also the people who work at these places I swear have their heads up their asses. Me and a buddy went to a University a few yrs ago to check it out and we talked to one of their advisors or counselors abouttransferring to the college and she asked us what kind of degree we had if any and my friend replied with: I have an Associate's of Art degree which is basically a useless general degree. The Lady then said oh wonderful, you're an artist, what kind of art do you enjoy.
I could go on and on but why.
I wish I knew then what I know now about College, I wish someone who went to College and dealt with these fucks would of talked to me and told me what bullshit I did need to know and what lines off bullshit I didn't need to know and what to look out for.

I hear you.

Right now I'm taking 4 classes - 3 of which have nothing to do with my major.

Logic for Computer Science -
This is an abstract, theoretical logic course. Abstract concepts and theory have no place in the practical work environment.

Principles of Programming Languages -
Here they are teaching me an archaic, awkward programming language called Standard ML that no one except for "software should be free!" geeks program in.

Structured Computer Organization -
Somehow the inner workings of the computer down to the digital logic level is going to be useful to me in this day and age.

I've had TONS of useless classes before... Technical Writing, Discrete Mathematics, Philosophy, Nutrition, etc. I have a History and Biology class coming up in the summer, and then some stupid Computer Ethics class (i.e. "don't pirate software! don't hack! it's bad!" class) and some other bullshit in the fall.

It's an unfortunate fact of life. College is now more about the money than the education. At my school it's about $300 per class with about 32,000 students. Assuming all of those students only take TWO classes a semester (some take much more), that's over $19 million in income annually. Subtract whatever petty salary they pay the professors and janitors and shit. What are you left with? Tons of money.

Now, do you think there are enough parking spaces in the lot to accomodate the large number of students? Of course not... it's "not in the budget."

Fucking bastards.

Listen up you big whiner. If you don't like it, go join the Marines.

If I really wanted someone to pull my brain out of my head, take a piss on it and then stomp on it, and then put it back into my head I'd probably join the Marines in a heartbeat.
I don't think the military would be for me.

I always kind of think of my college experience like this-- it was like living at some sort of mix of disney world and a sleep over-- with lots of drinking and sex. It was like a whole other reality and I got to live in that fun little world as long as I went to class, studied, and paid my tuition. It was certainly more fun than the real world.

This is why its actually a GOOD thing to wait a couple of years after high school to continue your education....

I have many friends that have the exact same complaints as you do.

Well I think college is interesting, but I'm taking almost all courses for my major, which I like.

Don't listen to the advisers. They're used to advising underacheiving nobodies. Tell them that you WILL take 19 credit hours this semester and get a 4.0, DAMN IT!

That's my advice.

One day you'll be in the "real" world, wishing you were back in college.

Life ain't so bad. Think about it.

Think about what?
I wish I could be in the so called "real" world, done with school making a half ass decent living instead of these shit jobs I have to resort to because not having a degree and living from pay check to paycheck. That is why I'm in college, to get away from this life style.
But maybe your right, one day I will wish I was back renting a shitty house with 3 dirty ass pig roomates and working at a shitty job just to get by, in fact I'm starting to miss it right now,,, aren't all of you!

Seriously, im in college right now, and im already knowing im gonna miss it. You have a lot more freedom. You are basically in the most fun sector of anyone's life. Where so many different things are goin on. You look forward to working 9-5 everyday? Yeah i do too in some respects, but then i think about what i have now. yeah it kinda sucks doing homework and stuff but its not bad AT ALL. Put it in perspective. Be grateful for what you have, take advantage of it. Do what you have to do. enjoy it, you will miss it.

I'm at SFASU in Tx. I have 45hours left. I hear what you mean about the run around. Most freshman classes at major universities are designed to fail people - termed: freshman fail out courses. The way the system works is shit, and has been discussed here many times.

My thing is that you don't really learn anything about the job you will have after college - it is just a right of passage. Since you are *educated* you get to be a working professional and most of your skills you will aquire with work exp.

Everyone else gets to work at Burger King, etc.

I'm sorry, but you have to be very stupid AND very lazy to fail freshman classes in college. So far I've gotten one 'B' and eight 'A's in my first two semesters.

College classes are very easy if you:
1. Go to class
2. Do the reading
3. Do the homework
4. Study for tests

I really don't see what yall are whining about. COLLEGE IS FUCKING EASY.

Enrico-

First of all I never said it was hard for me. All colleges have to fail out a certain % of freshman students. That is just the way it is. That is all I was saying.

I remember when I was young thinking people in charge or in positions of influence MUST be intelligent and sensible. I don't remember at what point I finally realized that the vast majority of people on this planet are ignorant paper-pushing morons.

i used to think that classes that did not have anything to do with my major were all bullshit. BUt as i got older and wiser i see the purpose off all the classes i had to take, Technical writing, philosophy, social anthropology, enviromental science etc... and my major was Telecommunications.

People forgot or still have to learn that college is about developing the mind, and to tech you how to think in life. It will change your perspective on the on the world and expose you to many different kinds of knowledge. That's what makes you very well rounded.

Do not resist taking extra classes, they are not bullshit, it's all new knowledge for you to absorb, if you think it's such COMPLETE BULLSHIT, then maybe you are not college material. Go work in a manually intense job, work your fingers to the bone trying to make a buck and then you will start to see a glimmer of the possibilities college can offer in life, patience is one of the things you learn in college. And maybe that's a lesson you are not ready for.

Another thing, many people think that by mearly going to college they will have a good paying job. That is not so, not by far. You have to go to college and put your self in demand with the major you choose. Too many people go to college with bullshit majors like Liberal Arts, or any Arts degree will be pretty much worthless compared to a graduate with a major in: Math, chemistry, Computer programming, pre med, biology etc...

So stop treating college like a big party, because if it's the only reason you are there then save your money, also some people are not ready to go to college when they go, they need to take their time to grow up and decide what they want, i did not commit to a mojor till i was 22.

Hey! in the real world...

u can't cut "class" to sleep late or because you have a hangover...at least not and keep your job! lol!

believe me...after a few years in the real world you'll realize how good u had it!!:D

I'm back in school after being in the workforce for about 3 years. God, I can't believe how much I missed university. Not just the academic work, but all the new people and ideas.

However, I've been sitting here in my prof's office for 12 hours now, prgramming his PC. lol Ah well, extra credit isn't free. :)

Wow, well that is just great. Such academic ambition is seldom encoutered. Why don't you make room for students that actually go to college for what it's meant for, instead of whoring around. And i express this veiw for both genders. It is no wonder the US is not even in the top 10 nations in the world when it comes to education, as students are part of the problem.

college is easy.......compared to other things.

Agreed that it is a waste of time, but 99% of jobs require that BA. Of course after the BA you need 3 or 4 years of experience, fuck that, thats why I'm going to Law school.

I'd rather be a lawyer than an assistant to the assistant director to the director.

Yup. My classes aren't too bad really...both PhDs, but still, it's a fucking money thing now, just like everything...Europe is different according to my philosophy teacher.

Warik...I am surprised to see a bodybuilder say that a course in nutrition was useless.

I was speaking in reference to my major.

An expertise in Nutrition will not serve me in my professional life.

Besides, I already knew everything about Nutrition that was taught in that class... including the part about more than 30 grams of protein a day being bad for you (rofl).
