College Decisions KILLING ME!

lately i have been worrying myself to death, not sleeping at all. i'm worried like a lil biatch about where to go for college. i have it narrowed down to two choices but they are killing me!

1. Iowa State: my sister goes there, they gave me a ton of scholarship money, my best friend is going to go there, and its a four hour drive from my hometown (lawrence, kansas). i can't stand the cold though, depresses the hell out of me.

2. University of Texas: NO ONE i know goes there but one guy who i barely even know (older than me). i love the campus, its beautiful, but i don't think they'll give me much scholarship money. i think UT can give me the most opportunity and new start in life though, something i desire.

What the hell am i supposed to do? I think UT will probably be better for me in the long run but i'm a pretty shy guy; i'll be depressed as all hell for the first semester!

Go to Texas. Has more credibility than ISU....adn...oh...yeah - it isn't Iowa.

Do what's best for you.

Do you want to get away from home?

If the only reason you are worried about going to Texas is because you're shy, then that shouldn't be a problem. If you stay in a dorm you will meet plenty of new people and the shyness will slowly disapear. Most of the other freshmen will be in the same boat as you, not knowing people and all. The first semester might take some adjustment, but that is how life is anyway.

I think it will be a great way to learn about who you are and what you want.

as long as its not going to crush you and your family financially, i vote for Texas. For me, a HUGE part of going to college was getting away from home, meeting new people, seeing new places, having new experiences, etc. I cringe at the thought of having gone to school close to home with a bunch of people I already knew.

I'm on the shy side myself. Don't worry about it. You can't NOT meet people in college! You'll be fine. Go enjoy yourself and have new experiences. GOOD LUCK!

thanks. i needed that. my biggest worry is that only 5% of UT students are out of state students. i'm worried that everyone else will know each other and already have established cliques. does anyone know whether freshmen orientations are really effective? also, is it uncomfortable to RUSH alone?

It's not like they all went to the one high school. Have you seen a map lately. Texas is pretty big. I don't think you have anyhting to worry about, kid.

iowa has an awesome wrestling team! go there

I think it depends on your financial situation. If paying for school is no problem, go to Texas. If money is tight, take the scholarship and go to Iowa. Also, don't worry about making new friends, wherever you go you are going to meet alot of new people. Have fun, good luck.

BTW, I like UT better...but that's just personal bias:D

i'm from rhode island, knew nobody, transferred in to UT mid-year and it was the best decision i ever made. i'm quite shy but met people by playing basketball every day and eventually becoming "one of the guys". you'll find your niche.

I got accepted to UT also, but I'm not gonna go (I think) cuz of the money issue. I was not gonna get as much as another college offered me. If the money is the issue then the decision should not be hard. But if money is not the issue, the go to UT. I live in HOuston and love going to Austin just to hang out with my friends that go to UT. It is an awsome college, lots of chicks, and everything to do is fun.

The obvious choice for me would be UT. You will get a more than decent education, you will go to a school with tremendous pride and spirit. I also strongly advocate getting as far away from home and from your comfort zone as you can get. You will be a much better person for it in the long run.

And I personally think that Texas has the most beautiful women in the U.S. behind Florida.

one of the best things about college for me was going so far away...3000 miles....

to this day I am so happy I decided to do that...

its great to be able to live in another part of the country...plus you really become independent...which is imporant for when you graduate!
