college book stores are a rip off

almost-pro

my girlfriend went to buy her books for this semester. total was $722 for books for one fucking semester. how ridiculous is that? and the only reason they charge so much is because you can't get the books anywhere else. her math book was $160 alone. it pisses me off to no end.... how they rip people off and get away with it.

yeap, at my place even some teachers are against it.... thats why theres half.com though

fuck man my teacher was telling me how it cost him 50 bucks per semester when he was in college(vietnam period i guess)

and he could make that much by just having a minimum wage job

I hear ya bro, they fuck you left and right,no way books are worth that much

no shit dude. if u take them back the next semester to sell them back.. they offer you like 15 bucks for 1 book. i wonder why college graduates are in so much debt when they graduate? hrmm...

Register as early as possible and buy your books from someone who took the class the previous semester.

they change the books so often you have to wait, and most used books and torn to shit ,sometimes wrong edition

I may try and sell my books privately on a message board not through them so I can get more

One of my college buddies started a college bookstore in a rented house as a class project in 1985. He's still in business today right across from Univ. of West Georgia, only now he has a freestanding building. At first it was just used books; now it's everything...school supplies, Greek life gear, rings, school logo apparel, alumni stuff like cups, bumper stickers, etc.

My school had a deal where for a the school would be like a pawn shop and sell your books for you for the 1st week of each semester. You set a price and the school got like 5% or something. It was better than that bookstore bullshit where they give like $7 for a book that cost you $35. College book stores are a total money making racket.

Hell opening a bookstore may not be a bad idea.

Go to the lib, take that book out and photocopy it :). Some courses don't even use the textbooks or some courses you can get everything out of lectures.
