COC Gripper PR

Hey everyone! I know it isnt shit, but I got my COC Gripper No.1 yesterday and after playing with it all day could only close it once, everytime I tried it. I tried it again just now and was able to close it 11 times, though I didnt let it open up all the way to full extention but close. Seems to be real dependent on where you grip it. My crushing strength has always been pretty weak, but its definately a PR. Still can only close it once in my right hand. haha . Hope to get the reps up to atleast 20+ reps before even attempting the No.2. May take a while. ThanX for all the encouragement!

How often do you train your grip?

I just started training crushing grip. More like something to do when Im not in the gym. Ive had to take some time off since I hurt my back deadliting. I play with the gripper all the time now.
My holding grip is decent. I can hold 700+ with a mixed grip and chalk. Hope to get my crushing grip up though. Not sure it has much importance in weight lifting (crushing grip), but its good to be able to crush things haha. ThanX!

Try training it thrice a week. Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Do 2 sets of 8 reps with each hand. On the second set, bring it to failure. It's worked wonders for me. Some people will tell you to train it like everything else, once a week. Not true. Your hand/forearm will recover really quick. Same as the abs and calves. You can afford to pound the grip more. Come back to me in 2 months, you should be good.

Do it at the end of your workout if you do it with your routine. If you do it on a day with deadlifts, shrugs, or chins (or all 3, like me) expect to find your grip to be alot weaker than the other days you trained it (obviously).

Awesome brother! ThanX! I plan to use the grippers atleast 3X per week. Problem is, Id be real lucky to squeeze out 8 at this point. It still takes me a LONG time to get a few squeezes out of the No.1. Getting 11 was very unusual for me, and still havent hit 2 complete squeezes in my left hand. This is only my second day using them though. I will try for atleast 8 reps though, on my right hand, and hopefully get up to the twenties within the next few weeks/months. When I got 11 I was just able to get into the momentum of it and bang them out, but couldnt be 100% sure that each touched, though it looked like it, but was by far my best so far. Hand position seems to make a big difference. ThanX brother!!!!!!! Yea I didnt like the idea of training them once a week. Cant see myself progressing much like that. ThanX again!!

No offense intended toward BFS, but doing 2 sets of 8 won't do much of anything. When you're training for a single squat or bench, do you do 8 reps for those? For the last 3 months I can't remember doing anything other than singles with my coc's. There's no reason to rep grippers. They're designed to build a powerful crush, not build endurance.

Good job on the close btw Beast:)

Thaibox, what rep/set/rest would your recommend then? I've been doing something like 3 sets to near failure(usually like 8reps), then maybe a timed hold or negative or something when i train with CoC.

To go from a Trainer (100) to a No. 1 (140) with only having prepared yourself with one rep with the Trainer seems like a more difficult task than if one were to continue to train until they could preform multiple reps and increase their strength. I mean, you're getting some endurance there, but you're also stronger if you can rep it more. At least, I feel that would be strength. All I know is, if I trained 3x a week and only did one set, for one rep, I would find myself alot further back than I am now. Just my thoughts, though.

nice man...thats a sweet pr...keep trainin the grip hard and train all aspects of the grip ie: pinch, crush, support, etc...

and thaibox knows his shit ...especially when it comes to grip. not sayin anyone is wrong or right but i would listen to him

AWESOME job big man!!!!

ThanX brother! Without repping how would I know when to progress, or if strength is increasing? Awesome strength closing the No.3 BTW, Im sure youll get the 4 eventually! ThanX again!

ThanX brother! I have no doubts about that. Just try to get the most out of everything presented. Everyone's body type is different also so its alot of experimentation IMO. ThanX again!

That's a key statement. Make sure not to just toy around with the grippers (even if you're toying hard). Think of it as a hardcore exercise, like squats or something. You don't play around with squats all day, for example.

I suggest the KTA program, it's the cream of the crop for increasing your gripper strength. Expect your hands to be more callous than regular skin by the end of it.

Here is the program

ThanX man! Im in no rush really. My main focus is still the weights.
I definately wont be using the grippers everyday, though. My hands are already getting pretty torn up , so Ill definately take some time off inbetween to recover. I probabally wont be deadlifting for a few weeks due to my pulled muscle, so atleast I dont have to worry about the gripper effecting my deadlifts. I use straps most of the time anyway. My goal of hitting 405 this month has definately been shot down for the time being. haha I will still be happy to get it within the next month or in april as originally planned. ThanX again!
