Close-grip bench: Elbows tucked in?

It seems that tucked in or not, your tris get worked plenty... Why does everyone say to tuck your elbows in for close-grip bench press?

Focuses on the triceps more. I feel it more when I tuck them, anyway. Also, keeping them out may have an adverse effect on the elbows.

I'd like to put these in my plan, but they hurt my wrists....do you think they (my wrists) are too close together? How far apart is your grip?

Also...I do them on the smith machine....do you think that matters?

i try my best to keep them tucked when i do close grip bench, as my close grip bench is on bis/tris day. i also try to keep them tucked in when doing regular bench as well, but i don't get too concerned if they drift outwards.

Mine are flared about 45 degrees to the body

reduces shoulder rotation and excessive pec/shoulder stretch

If i keep the elbows in the bar won't touch my chest unless there is weight on the bar..
