So one of my three businesses is working with reef aquariums. Than can mean building them or stocking them or servicing them.
So I sold a mostly completed custom cherry 120 stand and canopy with the best glass aquarium on the market. For a lot less than cost. But the client has been good for 12 years so it made sense.
Due to the good history, I was busily making a "Stradavari" out of the tank and canopy. Compression fits....really beefed up....polyurethane glue...everything sanded...2x4 reinforced (even sanded them in a drum sander).
I spent about $300 extra...of my money...to ensure this stand and canopy would be magnificent. I was going to flood coat all of the exterior wood so it would look like glass. The 4 gallons of flood coat costs me about $200 with shipping. Lots of work and time to apply. Plenty of opportunity to destroy the project with one ill advised decision.
I kept my client abreast of the progress. I was turning down over $100/day in Senior picture business so I could devote myself to project completion. I was sick for about a week....didn't help.
Client pulls the plug after three weeks. Quit paying for service. Got impatient.
Guess what? Not much flood coating will be done. No " Stradavari" of stands and canopies.
Too damned bad. They would have been so proud.
Anybody read this?
I feel better.
Good night.
Good morning.
Good luck.
