clarify the ephedea ban

What's going on? Pharmaceutical companies make good money off of asthma medication, especially when sold OTC. It's not really about "health", it's about money.

I have never personally heard of anyone having adverse reactions to ephedra products -- those whom I know that use them do so for diet purposes. Now ephedrine HCL... that's where I hear stories of people trying to catch a 'buzz', taking way too much, and taking it for too long. I'm the only person I know that actually takes HCL for asthma. Everyone I know takes it for purposes other than what it is meant for (note that that's not bad, per se, however for "health" purposes, I would think they'd take both off the market, not the one more commonly used for what it's intended).

epehedrine is an FDA approved drug for asthmatics. It's not banned. What's banned is using ephedra (not the same as ephedrine hcl) in dietary supplements, or selling supplements that contain ephedra. As long as ephedrine hcl is labeled in accordance with the law as being a bronchodiolator, or for asthmatic use, it can still be sold and purchased by anyone legally (within the US, anyway).

Not to mention, you can't have businesses like Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers and such going out of business because people can use an INEXPENSIVE method of weight control that actually WORKS! Lordy, what the hell are we thinking? Supply side economics demand that we pay high prices for things. It keeps big business rolling and people on the payroll...

But if it was deemed so dangerous that ephedra was pulled off the market, why not ephedrine HCl? There are a multitude of asthma products, both prescription and OTC, that are available.

Honestly, I don't think ephedrine makes for a very good asthma -- not quick enough for a short-acting medication, and not long enough for a preventive medication. I really don't think people diagnosed with asthma will notice its absence.

agreed,input plz?

To sum it up bro's...

Anything sold "legally" in the supplement/vitamin/ health food(s) catagory that seems to actually live up to some claims, and produce some sort of positive result for the user,... is doomed to be eventually takeb off the market, and dubbed "illegal" in time. It's actually funny, yet really annoying,...but true.

Ephedra is a dietary supplement, and thus regulated by the FDA as a food.

Ephedrine is regulated by the FDA as an OTC drug.

Epherdrine works as a bronchial dilator, that claim has been approved by the FDA so it can be sold as such.. it doesn't matter how effective you think it may be.

Basically the FDA is saying "quit eating that shit, but if you have asthma, you can take it as a drug to help your asthma."

They're preventing companies from selling the stuff in dietary supplements.. that's the main idea behind the ban.

The general public has no idea that their is ephedrine HCL, and if they do they don't know it can be used for fatloss. I think the FDA and gov. are using this to their advantage, because most think Ephedra is the only form of the drug, and its going to be gone for good. Also the general public is to lazy or to helpless, and to stupid put together a simple EC stack. I mean theres even lot of people on elite that pay $30+ for a name brand weak ephedrine product when they could put there own stronger fatburner together for about 10$.

i actually thought they were banning ephedrine,i started stocking up and asked a store cleark when they were taking it off the shelves, thats wheni found out the differenc between ephedra and ephedrine
