Cingular Customers

Does anyone else have this absolutly shithole company as their cell phone provider? I got a phone with ATT before they merged with Cingular. Decided to upgrade my phone, after the merger, and the SIM card doesn't fit. So I go the Cingular store to get a new SIM card and they try telling me that I have to enter into a new contract in order to use the phone. They don't make anything new for the ATT phones, but they'll sure as fuck take my money.

I do but att didnt have the rollover minutes so its all good.

I have cingular and the benefits are good. Every time I change towers while driving the calls drop and I have to redial, but if it would work, I have a great plan. Fucking cingular. In 40 miles, the call will drop at least 3 times, usually 4.

i've had cingular since november.............so far, so good.

I had the same problem Rex... I wanted to upgrade my phone and they said my ATT sim card wouldn't work in the Cingular phones.. Basically, I had to buy a new phone even though I just upgraded my ATT contract and switch to one of their shitty plans.. The service I have to admit has been awesome and I like the actual date that the bill is due instead of ATT stupid policy of "Due upon receipt".. You don't know how many times I had to call in and fight w/ them b/c they charged me late payments for a billl that never had a due date!!!

I've had cingular over a year now, so far I haven'thad any issues and with the merger with ATT I now have excelent signal strength just about anywhere in my area. I'm even thinking of extending my contract with them for 2 more years.

well im kinda miffed tho now that i think bout it.......i had to get a new sim card when i moved....and i got 2 cellphoen bills for 50 bucks this month.......i shoulda called them or something

I agree that they have good plans, benefits, and great phones. There is no difference in the service, but they're customer service is shit.

My argument though is how is a company going to merge with another and say "We'll take your money, but we won't let you update anything unless you enter into a new contract, then either pay for 2 cell phone bills one of which you'll never use, or take the early termination penalty." They try to run a train on your wallet.

You shouldn't get charged an early termination fee but they won't honor the ATT contract if you switch phones.. The ATT plan should be cancelled and the new Cingular one becomes the new plan...

i have cingular because of the merger and have been thinking of getting a new phone. i had no idea it would cause such a fucking hassle. thanks for the heads up!

ya'll think cingular is bad for customer service?

try sprint.......... :(

I feel sorry for the guy in customer service who had to listen to me...actually I don't. He got an ear full on how shitty a job they do taking care of their customers. I hope whatever dolt decided it was a good job to record phone calls enjoys that one.

Round two with customer service will begin shortly.

I think it's only ATT customers that are having a hard time from the merger (i.e. no att sim card support on cingular phones)

Yep. ATT customers are the red-headed step children of the Cingular family.

Here's the real kick in the nuts. If I would've just got a new contract going with that phone would've made me $25 in the long run. But no I wanted to just upgrade it and keep the plan. And paid over $200 for the phone. That $200 took about and 45 minutes of playing Texas Hold'em at Caesar's Palace to acquire.

Me too. I did have a problem with the freaking sales guy though a few months back when I had to buy a new phone but wasnt ready to renew my contract. That bastard straight up lied about shit and sold me crap unbenownst to me to jack up his commission meanwhile screwing a single mother of several kids (I had all my kids in the store with me - THE EASIEST freaking sale he ever made - bastard tried to take advantage anyway). When I went back and talked to the manager he agreed that his associate did some stuff that wasnt quite ethical and fixed stuff up for me nicely. :)

all these problems are att's fault not cingulars... cingular has had a txtbook gsm network since they were pac bell... which is what the rest of the world uses. att didn't even use sim cards till the very end, and even then their service wasn't easily compatible w/ other carriers... sprint, verizon, and the old att all need to get up to speed on their networks... having a sim isn't a choice anymore, it's a necessity. I couldn't imagine not being able to use my phone out of the country eek...pretty much all the new phones are at least triband... most even quadband...

I used to work for cingular corporate, and despite leaving on bad terms, I still consider them the best by a LONG margin.
