Christmas? What makes it special?

I love this Christmas.

I have lights all over my house. One small 1 candle in all the windows. And it just feels good this year. Smell like pine needles
and spice.

What makes Christmas Special for you?

Old memories!

It sometimes is sad for me because people come to the boats and they are gambling their money away and then later you find out they lost their christmas bonus or the gift money for their kids. I feel like saying hey idiot why would yuou do that? But then I know becaues I see it all the time, these guys are addicted and it is really sad.

I like seeing lights in a city and streets that are lit up that makes me feel warm kind of like the people in the middle east do when they warm themselves up around a burning building that got bombed out

as i get older... xmas is less and less special, maybe it will regain its specialness when i have more people...i.e. kids... to get gifts for

To me, it's special because it's that one time of year where everything seems 'perfect', atleast it looks that way. There's also an inreased suicide rate, go figure.

But with all negativity aside, Christmas is special because it reinforces positive everyday actions, such as bringing families together and letting each individual express his or her emotions with sincerity.

I feel horribly depressed at christmas.. have done for as many christmas' as I can remember.. christmas used to signal fear of exams when I was at uni for 4 years; since exams immediately followed xmas..

I don't have any family, so there is no one of blood for me to buy gifts for...

And all my eyes see is insincerity and marketing.....

Friends, family, festivity, and food. Christmas is all those things to me. Memories are so good too...I remember laying under the tree when I was small in the days leading up to Christmas and watching 'Letters to Santa' on PBS. I still remember the moment that I got the Atari..the most mind-blowing gift of my life up til' that point. Helping Mom decorate the christmas cookies with sprinkles, ect....so many great memories. The best holiday of the year!!!

I felt that for a long time.
My early memories is my Dad coming home drunk waking
us all up and starting a fight with my Mom.

I never really wanted to celebrate Christmas after that!

But for some strange reason this year. I feel like I have so much
to be thankful for.

its a time of encouragement from family members for me. getting a degree and applying to a professional school is quite uncommon in my family.

X-mas will always be special...Even though the older ya get the less presents you get, but the time of year will always bring back memories. It always felt good to reminisce about your childhood, even better to tell your kids about it.

It's a great time to reflect on loved one's. Just a good feeling all round at christmas time.

Hope you are well Pamela.

Yep.......just wait dude.....X-Mas means so much more when ya have a curtain climber or two........

The excitement that builds in my daughters eyes as X-Mas gets closer and closer.........asweome feeling.......

Plus for the past 4-5 years that I have been married.......I find a different way to outdo myself with my wife's gift.......:D

As a practicing snake handler, Christmas means a new set of anti-venom kits, baby rattlers all coiled up together under the tree and of course Christ.

getting 3 days off from VERY hectic schedule at work

The children are what make it special. Adults can be cynical, but children look at it with all their innocence and amazement. When you look into their eyes you see it, and you can't help but to be touched by that look. :)

I wonder if the parents of Jean Benet Ramsey thought that same thing?

:D

<-- cynicism

I LOVE Christmas as well. My favourite time of year I savour this month like it were lollipop to a child.

What makes it special to me is that it is once a year, so there is A LOT of anticipation and buildup. It is also one of the few times out of the year my ENTIRE family is together. It is not about the gifts, rather more about seeing my brothers, sisters, parents, and more importantly, my young nieces and nephews HAPPY and SMILING!

It is about being together with my family and realizing that TOGETHER we have made it through another year, so I feel incredibly blessed and fortunate.

I also love the energy and excitement that it brings out in the city. EVERYTHING is more lively.... more lights, more people running about the streets shopping or doing whatever, more people going out, etc. It's just so much more lively and hectic.... I LOVE it!!! lol

Lastly, it is also the time of year when it snows, and I absolutely love snow! lol! There is something about snow that just mesmerizes me because it is just such a beautiful thing.
