Chin Ups and Pull Ups

I've looked around and see different definitions of each.

From what I understand, a chin-up is palms facing you. Pull-ups are palms facing aways from you.

And what is it considered if you use parallel bars (two separate bars that you hold onto ... palms face each other)? Are those chin-ups?

So, what I am asking, is, what is the definition of a pull up and what is the definition of a chin up?

This is the convention. I've never heard of anyone doing the other form of (something)-up you described.

They're all pull ups because you are trying to pull yourself up.
Ok, so maybe they're all chin ups because your pulling your chin up and the rest of you is coming along for the ride.
I'd stick with the 1st definition.

well I always considered them the same thing. with both you're pulling yourself up chin high, except over/under adds more/less stress to various muscles.
