Chick Peas and Protein

I don't believe the protein in chick peas is considered a "complete protein" meaning it does not build muscle.

Chick peas are good in that they contain plenty of essential minerals like beta-carotene / calcium / manganese / magnesium / zinc / phosphorus & potassium, so they help with waste removal from the digestive tract and with kidney-based blood filtration. BUT the protein they contain is vegetable protein and as im sure you know that means that its poorly absorbed, like casein. Thats not a bad thing but it does mean that you'll need to eat a whole load of the damn things. Also, they may be ~20% protein but they are ~50% carbs so you'll be loading yourself with carbs at the same time as getting minimal protein. Personnally id eat nuts if you wanted the protein content without losing the essential fatty oils that chick peas contain.

I like chick peas because they are a good source of carbs and fibre, any protein is a bonus.

I think that they have a lot of fat too, because the hummos that i eat has garlic lemon juice and chickpeas, and it has about 3 protein 5 carbs, 3 which are fiber, and 2.5 fat. Im pretty sure they are a good fat since they come from a veggie.

Most of the fat that is in hummus is from tahini which is a sesame seed paste. Hummus made without the tahini has much less/very little fat.

thanks for making me hungry im off to this israli place for a fallafal (spelled it wrong mostlikly)

good info in this thread thanks

i'm a chick pea fan too.

i eat it for the carbs/fiber though, not the protein

here's a little something my dad made for me once, good shit:

chick peas
extra virgin olive oil
lemon juice
garlic powder and/or minced garlic
parsley
oregano
basil
salt
black pepper

mash the chick peas up and mix it all into a paste. then spread it on a tortilla (i just ate it with a spoon)

sorry i don't have amounts. i just kinda threw it together, taking macro amounts into consideration. you'd have to experiment.
