Think of sublingual nitroglycerine for heart patients, or chewing tobacco for those who like a good 'chaw' now and again. Both of these use the thinness of the gums/sublingual tissue and the abundance of blood vessels in this tissue to facilitate faster absorption.
Two steroid-related examples would be cheque drops or methyltestosterone; both of these can be used sublingually (or, in the case of methyltest, intranasally as well) for a fierce pump/rage.
