chess players?

I usualy find that a good game of Connect Four as great meditative value to soothe my psyche. That or a good game of Twister with myself and a mirror.

Connect Four was the best. That and Guess Who, and Clue, and Battleship, and Monopoly. Oh, yeah, and Hungry Hungry Hippos. :fro:

its fun if you're bored outta your mind and have too much time on your hands, but thats why these boards were created.. lol

Being a nationally rated chess player myself I don't think that chess ought to be an olympic sport.

The Olympic Games should only include athletic sports, not mental sports. Chess is a mental sport. Furthermore FIDE, the organization that is pushing to have chess included still has too many internal problems. Gary Kasparov, arguably the best chess player in the world refused to defend his FIDE world champion title because of these problems long ago.

If it matters to anyone, I think bodybuilding is an athletic sport worthy of Olympic inclusion. But then we have a real issue about what to do with the drugs...

If you are going to say that only athletic sports can be included then you would have to remove many of the "sports" currently included in the games. Some people would also argue that bodybuilding isnt particularly athletic.....and the judging is very subjective which could be a problem.

Personally I think the Olympic Games isnt what it used to be. The games are now about cash.....if you have enough of it you are in.

Imnotdutch:

I think Equestrian sports should not be in the Olympics, apart from that all other sports in the Olympics right now require athletic performance as far as I know.

Shooting and archery are two others that come to mind....

I think its a great idea. Chess is one of the oldest games
in existance today.

It is a test of strategy/skill AND believe it or not ENDURANCE

When playing w/no-time limit some of the games I play with
my brother go on for 5-6 hours, and you get DRAINED/TIRED.
Professionals can go on or 10-12 hours.

You have to be able to visualize 10 maybe 20 moves
into the future to conduct your strategy, so often people
just say forget it, since you do need a grasp of logic
to play the game.

Basically: You can't play it? Well then, don't knock it.

Godspeed

i agree with fonz, i think. what's the big deal if chess is in the olympics? the olympics have already been "diluted" by things like synchronized swimming and rhythmic gymnastics, imho.

what about bridge? there's been some talk about making contract bridge an olympic sport...whaddya' think of that? i know, it conjures up images of some 85 yr. old lady on the olympic stand with her gold medal....but i kinda' hope it gets included, too. (disclaimer: i play chess and bridge sometimes...)
