Being a nationally rated chess player myself I don't think that chess ought to be an olympic sport.
The Olympic Games should only include athletic sports, not mental sports. Chess is a mental sport. Furthermore FIDE, the organization that is pushing to have chess included still has too many internal problems. Gary Kasparov, arguably the best chess player in the world refused to defend his FIDE world champion title because of these problems long ago.
If it matters to anyone, I think bodybuilding is an athletic sport worthy of Olympic inclusion. But then we have a real issue about what to do with the drugs...
