how? has anyone ever succesfully taken a poly test and passed while lying? i've heard of people taking ephedrine (or similar drugs) to make their heart race thereby tricking the polygraph. also, having thumbtacks in your shoes- just step your toes on them when youre answering a question. are any of these true? are there any tips on passing a polygraph test while lying?

do you know how it works and what it measures?

Just need to confuse those measurements...

Actually it really doesn't matter what you do when taking a polygraph. Despite the overwhelming use by law enforcement, polygraphs vary between 50/50 and about 65/35 in accuracy. Basically they are more dependant on the poly operator rather than the machine itself.

The reason for the dependance by LE is that it is a tool of intimidation rather than an accurate gauge of the truth. Unfortuneately often a truthful answer is interpreted as a "lie" and your fucked anyway. There is a great study on polygraphs that was done by a University in the U.S. a while back where they hired "professional" polygraph operators and had them interview people to tell if they were lying. Each operator was told right before interviewing the subjects whether the people that hired them thought they guy/gal was "lying" or "not lying". Along the lines of "yeah, this is just a formality, we're pretty sure he's lying". In an overwhelming majority of the cases the determination of whether the subject was lying or not came down to the comments before the actual interview.

It's an IDIOTIC technology!!! But of course that doesn't help you when you are forced to take one. Best bet, ALWAYS refuse, even if you are NOT lying. If you have to take one and you are telling the truth, yes you are better off still trying to screw it up into an "inconclusive" result.

Basically if you have an IQ over 80, you should be aware of this and avoiding these stupid machines. Most criminals are bigger idiots than the cops anyway, so it works out in the cops favour.

Apologies to any cops out there (present company excepted).

Oh yeah, if you are investigating this subject. Please be aware that there are numerous studies that rave about how good these things are. Chances are if they are in favour of polygraphs, dig a little deeper and you'll find the studies were either done, or funded by a law enforcement agency...big surprise they favour the things.

The truth is that polygraphs don't work. What they do is make you as uncomfortable as possible then scare you into confessing.

I heard that the operators will sometimes tell you they see something wrong with the test even when they don't just to see if you will break down and confess.

No matter what the results are they can’t prove shit as long as you keep denying it.

Even if someone did invent a device that can detect lies you could probably fool it by focusing on something else or convincing yourself that you didn’t really do it.

I disagree. Refusing a lie detector test makes you look guilty. Even though they aren’t supposed to hold it against you I’d bet anything that your decision will come back to hurt you.

Fucking the polygraph is extremely simple; I've done it twice.

The easiest (and most effective) thing to do is answer your own question when asked anything.

Example:

Boogy: "Were you under the influence of narcotics on the night of 27th of November?:
You (thinking to self): "Do I want to cut off my right pinkie? Hell no."
You: "No."

Just basically make yourself anaware of the questions that they are asking you, and go with your own flow.

suppose you take a polygraph test for a law enforcement job and fail it. can they bust you for that?

THose tests are a joke and they should be illegal. They measure bodily responses assuming that if you're lying, you will have a greater change in these responses. Many people that tell the truth fail these tests and many people that lie, pass. What makes me the angriest is the Board of Polygraphers that tout their tests as foolproof. They are lying out their asses and they know it, they can't be that dumb.

so if youre applying for a government job and you fail the polygraph test, can that give them probable cause to raid your home?

That's really interesting. I lie a lot so I will have to try that. Nowadays I usually just think of lying as nearly the same thing as telling the truth, though.
