Ok, so you tell me to do a "damn search" yet you post a link to what you think is the cheapest, most reliable ALA? Um, Ok.......
um your messing with a 300 pound mad man, probally on anadrol/fina/test cycle, and i hope he rips yer head off...

best of luck making friends on this board with an attitude like that:rolleyes:

A lot of people have recommended using r-ala instead.

Its a bit more expensive, but you need less of it.

However the recommended amounts .... start to seem to me that it gets a LOT more expensive.

Its about $20 for 10G of it (100, 100mg caps). But people are being told to take 300, 500mgs with a meal ....... so frankly I dont know if its worth it.

It SHOULD be based upon the science, but I dunno.

r-ALA is a much better return on your investment than ALA. r-ALA is much more potent and has less sides like ALA gut and heartburn that you get with regular ALA.
Overall I don't really think you can compare the two because the r-ALA does so many things like lowering your insulin levels to allow for greater fat burning that it's in a class by itself.

riker,

dont know where those reccomendations are coming from but more than 800-1200mg of r-ala per day is too much.. and wasteful..

100-200mg(higher carbs high mg.. lower carbs lower mg) per meal and 200-400mg(same) with a large carb meal or drink (usually the post workout one)

Sorry I offended you guys:(-

Anyway,
Ulter and Macro(and anyone else),
I know this has been beaten to death, but you say how much better r ala is than the s ala, but does the s ala have benefits, or do you think it is unproductive? I mean, does it lower insulin levels, aid in liver protection, better metabolic performance ect. ect. like r ala but just to a lesser degree as pure r ala? Thanks....

Sorry for the dumb question but is the ALA from anabolical and nutriteam r-ala?

EDIT: Ok nevermind...gonna be picking up some r-ala now :)

it is important to clarify..

NO ONE IS USING S-ALA

only AF(as of yet though that will likely eventually change) has r-ala..

all other ala is racemic (IT IS A BLEND OF THE R AND S ENANTIOMERS) it should be a 50/50 blend though as r-ala may degrade faster (r-ala has a shelf life to 2yrs s-ala has a shelf life of 4 yrs.. at least according to the chemical manufacturers) it may have less r-ala due to degradation... another issue is that some companies may mill the racemic (for higher concentration blends which are required in some countries) leaving a higher s-ala content..

once again no product (at least hopefully) is solely s-ala

So you are saying that the r-ala is better for liver protection and detoxifying the liver?

uhhmmm.. not exactly.. it is just not clear.. because cytosolic reduction (which is how s-ala is reduced) has not been thoroughly tested (from a liver protection standpoint)..

for solely liver detox.. racemic is likely as good (if you divide total dosage by 2) though it may be a slightly better ratio if the cytosolic reduction is beneficial (r-ala is reduced in the mitochondria)
