Charged with Simple Poss.??? What to expect in Court

Back in March an order with my name on it was seized at the border! Two days later one local detective, one DEA officer, and one US Customs official showed up at the door with the gear in hand. They didnt arrest me and didnt even search the house, but made me arrange a meeting with the three of them two days later. Once we met at the police station we went back and forth for a while as they explained what they were charging me with and so on. As the cops came to realize that i am not the "STEROID KINGPIN" they were looking for, but a full scholarship honors student at the local college (MTSU), they told me that if i owned up and got straight with them that they would drop all federal charges and only charge me with simple poss. of a Schedule III in a state court. This sounded good to me as i wanted nothing to do with any type of felenoy, espcially a federal one!!! So i basically owned up and left with a citation to appear in General Sessions Court in Rutherford County TN at 9:00 on July 25, 2005. So basically i was just wondering if anybody could offer advice on what to expect in court. i know im looking at a fine, court cost, and probation, but as i have found out in relentless searching, state courts can pretty much do whatever they feel like!

IT would depend on which state, you should have never agreed to anything the package was never in your hands. I was rolled over on by a friend who told the cops i was a gear kingpin they raided my house. they only found 6amps of winny and some d-bol. they found weed and told me they were more interested inthe weed ,they droped the charges for the gear because they could tell I was not a kingpin. but I did get charged with poss. of cds 2years probation. I wouldn't worry much a good lawyer will get you nothing without you having the package in hand. just my opinion. good luck man

your right, a good lawyer would definantly help out but the cheapest price i found to take the case was $5,000. im just a college student and i dont have that kind of cash, and im not going to ask my parents to help pay for my mistake!!

Rick Collins can consult with you and can probably find you a lawyer in your jurisdiction who knows what he is doing and might be cheaper. $5,000 sounds very high for simple possesion w/ no priors. Rick is $500 for a consultation but might work with you. At the very least, you need to buy the book "Legal Muscle" ASAP.

yes $5000 is way to much ,i only spent $1500 to get probation and thats what my lawyer said I would get before even going to court. shop around lawyers are everywhere.

I tried the Rick Collins website and i eventually found my way to an affiliate firm in my area. And i know it seems high but $5,000 was the cheapest out of five local law firms. Hell, i even got a call from Johnnie Cochran's local Nashville office and they offered to take my case for an easy $12,500!!! one good thing that might come from this entire ordeal is a new profession cause im seriously thinking about changing my major to become a lawyer!!!

Rick Collins can not only most likely find you a cheaper attorney,
he will get you one who understands steroid cases which is extremely important. You allready may have f***ed yourself by pleading guilty to the state charges because they tend to be stricter then the federal sentencing guidelines when it comes to steroids. If the attorney you hired is the only game in town, Rick can work with him or her as well. Most attorneys have little or no experience with steroid cases at all. If you really are thinking about becoming an attorney you better get this charge beat because allmost no law school will accept you if you are convicted of a drug charge and even if they do and you pass the bar, the state bar may deny you admittance during your character interview. I don't mean to sound like a sales guy but you seem like a good kid and the $500 you spend consulting w/ Rick is well worth it.

A little good news?? i found a lawyer who is going to offer the DA in charge of my case a pre-trial diversion??? from what we talked about yesterday this is the best way to keep me clear of any potential time served, heavy fine, and probation (in a sense). supposedly this lawyer knows the DA in my area well and he said that it wouldnt be a problem??? hopefully this is the best way to go because my lawyer said that after a year of what he called a "minimum probation period" (basically a normal probation period without having to report to a probation officer and more importantly not having to pay a probation officer) my record will be completely clear??? assuming i dont do anything stupid and get arrested during this time!! this proves once agian thats its not who you are but who you know!!! (unless your the person to know, but all too often being the person to know brings on too much responsibility)

Exactly how large was your order? I always thought it was safer to do small packages therefore the DEA wouldn't want to waste energy on small time violators. Is this true?
