Any suggestions????? is fusion the only answer???? Got to be something else.

After many months of therapy and an MRI, I now know
I have a herniation at c6-7 and a bulge at c7-t1
surgeons say fusion. Is that it? Are there any other options in this country? If so, what and where do I go?
Also, I am A former competitive powerlifter about to do strong man comps. In your opinion, In most cases, does the muscle rebuild? as well as strength return?
I have been dealing with this for about 8 mo. now and have lost 50% of my strength and about 1/3 of my left shoulder, tricep, pec and lat. I look well deformed at best in my opinion. Just hoping to look normal and gain back what I need to compete.
Thank you letting me bend your ear,
Anything you can share no matter how general will be helpful.
BTW- as long as I'm not straining myself, does it hurt to postpone surgery? I feel like I'm between the rock and well the other hard place. I'm leaving for London in Sept and seems like the recovery time is so long that I need to wait till I return in Oct. Can you share anything on that? Is there a way to to speed recovery? new technique? meds? exercise?
Agressive rehab? known surgeon in the new england area?
Please inform.
Thank you again
Dr Mongo

I don't know of alternatives other than fusion for your condition. Professional athletes, mainly football players get this done. I don't know how much it would limit you as far as getting back in shape with wt lifting. I would think that strongman comps are not in your future, nor should you be overly concerned with them, given how your present status. But def put the strongman issue on the back burner, and first get treated and take it from there. Have you spoken with a sports surgeon, someone who deals with football teams? THis would def be better than a surgeon who deals with non-athletic folks.
Sorry I can't provide you with what you want to hear, but I feel this is what you should hear.
Hope I helped Brother.
