So I guess i want to have a nice sleek razr and replace my motorola v550.

Could i ebay an unlocked razor on ebay and just put my SIM card inside the razr?

Short answer: Yes

But that ebay Razor may not have the last S/W version for your service provider...

& may not have the correct "Flex" for many of the newest features (video camera, MP3 player, etc.)

Razor's are so inexpensive now, just get the latest version from your provider, you're just asking for disappointment/hassle by buy a cell phone off ebay.
