cardio question for everyone

ok guys im trying to loose the fat from bulking..so i am watching my diet..but i also do 30min of cardio....i walk on the treadmill at the highest incline at a 3.0 speed...3 minutes pumping my arms (like jogging) and 1 minute holding on to the treadmill..then repeat..until 30min is over.....i do this because i figure it helps out the abdominals and i also hate running....so what do u guys think about that?? any suggestions??

I think it's all about your heart rate. If it's up high enough for a long enough period of time then you're doing fine. I, myself, hate cardio so if you find a way to get through it without being bored to tears then props to you. Just remember, droping body fat is simple thermodynamics. Your calories burned must exceed your calories consumed.

The guys are right. Cardio first thing in the AM on an empty stomach will get rid of fat the fastest. While you sleep your body is in fat burn mode. You can take advantage of that when you get up.
When I do cardio (about 10 times a year) I also walk on the treadmill. I use at least a 5% grade. I start at 3.5 mph and go up for a bit then back down. Staggering the speeds like 3, 4, 3.5, 3, 4, 3 will help burn more fat. I just stay on it for 20 mins. A buddy of mine that competes nationally and has placed in the top two told me that after 20 mins its strait fat that you burn. I rarely make 20 mins but it works!!!
Best of Luck!

I use and have all my athletes use the stepmill. It's hard as fuck, but that's the point. I fucking hate cardio. It's the worst part of dieting...

I use the stepmill. In my opinion it is the most effective piece of cardio equipment in the gym.

Hate cardio with a passion, but like dieting...we all have to do it to get to where we want to go. AM is the best to do cardio

i read an article ( in M+F, ya ya ya) and it said that the stair climber burns has the most fat/ less muscle burning ratio. now i dont know why this would be any different than the treadmill , eliptical or biike.. i just read it.

keep the incline , if on treadmill, no more that 3 or 4% and heart rate about 80- 85% max heart rate to burn more fat / hour.

... yes am cardio sucks.. feel like im going to pass out everytime i do it.. but i dont have to worrry about that til July

from what i've read and understand, if you exceed a 70% heartrate, you start to burn muscle as well. 80-85% for an hour seems ridiculous. HIIT cardio is generally 15-25 minutes.

Yeah. Cardio is tricky. Go to fast and too long and you lose muscle. Don't go fast enough or not long enough and you don't burn enough calories for it to matter. BTW Beelzebub are you a fan of Dante?

Am cardio, empty stomach, and I've also read waiting approx. 30 min to eat after your cardio is good as your body is still in an elevated fat burning mode.

can someone tell me where this empty stomach AM cardio idea came from. Everything I read and seen says cardio on an empty stomach is the worst thing you can do. Not to mention, I've seen at least 3 people pass out in the last 6 months while doing cardio on a empty stomach.
IMO I think this is a bad idea. I say eat many smaller (healthy) meals, this is supposed to raise your metabolism. Hit cardio 3 times a week at 70% hrt rate for 20 to 30 min. And for sanity mix up what exercise machines you use.
I guess the bottom line is to do what works for you..

The reason its best to do cardio on an empty stomach is because your body has no carbs to burn as energy so it goes directly to burning fat, also if your heart rate goes to high its actually an aerobic workout which is good for the heart but not good for burning fat - you'll loose to much of that hard earned mass -

Calories in vs. calories out is what it does come down to, but body compostion changes will also vary depending on where you're starting point is and how your food choices change once you decide to tune in on your diet. 3000 clean calories will do ya better than 2700 calories of complete shit. I'd hit cardio in the morning on an empty stomach at a medium intensity for at least a half hour. and if you're gym has no TV for you to watch while htiing the treadmill, find a new one. I don't mind cardio as long as I got somethin to watch on TV. You haven't told us your stats.

HIIT cardio, particularly running stairs, works amazingly well. For me, 1st thing cardio burns too much muscle.

take 5 grams BCAA's prior to the cardio, stay at 70% MHR for 20min or so...can't burn muscle at that rate unless you go more than 20min and more than 70%

try using the eliptical trainer instead. Hall ass on it for about 30 minutes everyday, you'll burn the fat faster than anything else :)

The eliptical is for old guys! Stick to the stepmill if you want a real cardio workout.

If you're up to the challenge... i say a Tony Little Gazelle! BAHAHAAA.. No seriously, a stepmill is freakin awesome! Those things will get your heartrate up fast.. and best of all, you don't have to run.
