cardio for the best bodybuilders

after my workout today, i was talking to a bodybuilder at my gym, and the subject of cardio came up..
this guy looks like a pro bodybuilder. hell, all those pros look the same. big and cut . he was talking about his training, diet, job etc. when i asked him about cardio..
this guy works 50 hours a week for a living. looks great , but dosent look good enough to make money at it. just your local big built guy.
i asked him why he dosent do cardio. he said he aint wasting his time. he's bodybuilding fit..
very true, but wouldnt an athlete, who works for a living, and will never make any money at bodybuilding, want to make his body totally fit. lift hard and do the cardio too??
i asked him if his car broke down 3 miles from home what he would do . he said call for a ride.
a real athlete, in my mind would run home..burning 300-350 calories.. big deal. just kinda wonder the mind set on some of these guys who only lift.
you aint burning that many calories running or doing any hard cardio for 20-30 minutes..so heres an arnold looking guy thats only half way fit in my book... looks good and strong, but cant run 3 miles home.. embarassing if you ask me..

most people want to be as big as possible and dont want to lose any muscle while doing cardio. thats the way i feel anyway

Go ask a amateur marathoner why they care about running 25 miles when they look like sticks?

Because running 25 miles is a feat that most bodybuilders couldn't touch. I think different people all get different achievements and it's stupid to put down another's achievments. However I agree with what you're saying about marathon runner's looking like sticks, they need to lift some weights.

To each his own...

your right... to each his own.
my original post was just me wondering why he dosent want to be overall fit, as he's never going to make any money from him being built and looking good.
when i was a runner from 1970-1990, all runners i knew ,local runners ,regional runners and some all americans lifted hard...
they do curls, pullups, dips ,abs, squats, and pushups to name a few. trouble is they are burning lots of calories along with already being a small bone person from the beginning. see, a runner does lift. try running the last quarter of a 5k under 60 seconds with no arm work.. you wont go as fast... you need upper body strength big time..
i cant speak for the kenyans and morrocans and runners from ethiopia, but i imagine they are born skinny..
this bodybuilder just dosent want to run. the skinny very good runners i knew lifted.
neither will make a living at what they do, but the skinny runner chooses to be more fit buy doing his sport and adding lifting to improve his strength for his sport. the arnold looking guy i was talking to once to be half way fit.

Did he tell you he can't do it or won't do it? And what would he do once he got home? Call a tow truck and run back to his car? Actually, the only question that matters is, who cares? What's fit in your book? Is it the heart working good? The lungs? Isn't he in fact working these organs while lifting? What if you died from a heart attack and he lived till he was 95. Would he be more fit than you? What does he do for his job? A buddy of mine that was Mr. Oregon told me he didn't do cardio because he worked for Northwest Natural Gas digging and other manual labor stuff. I don't thinks it's all that embarassing. What I find funny is how people will try to find anything and everything to beat someone down. It's just playground bullshit if you ask me.

i'm not putting anyone down. i guess from the get go, during our conversation, he was a bit cocky saying the lifting was all that mattered to him.and like i said, to each his own.. and sure, you do get a great workout from weights alone. i guess it was he ego a bit that got me..
he sells cars..
anyway, i will continue doing both as hard as i can. nothing wrong with looking like frank zane and running like steve prefontaine.

i hate cardio..i stay lean year round so maybe that helps my decision. maybe he just wants to be big
