Car guys.. lets discuss sleepers

Ok guys, I have about 7k in the bank going towards a new car. I need a car to modify and just fuck around with basically. I am a HUGE fan of the early model Datsuns or 1st Gen CRXs and the whole idea of the "sleeper" car. Well basically does anyone know if:

a SR20DET will fit into a Datsun 510? If so, do you think I should go with that choice? OR

Just op for a CRX running a B16A1 with type r intake manifold, exhaust manifold, type r cams, exhaust, intake , clutch, pulleys, etc and reworked EMS?

Or should I just take my 7k, put a down payment on a 95ish M3 and then pay the rest of it off later?

sick sleeper: 92 Ford Taurus SHO, 5 spd manual..7k will get you a 13 second fwd taurus whose top end is just siiiiick

I've driven quite a few luxury and fun cars, but there was something about that SHO...it has a 220hp/200tq yamaha motor mated with a 5 spd transaxle, stock

buy a lambo

I was thinking a Datsun 510, comeletly jet black (non reflexive SATIN black), lowered, 16s Bronze Volk Gram lights. Stock SR20DET from Japan, (220HP at the crank), cam gears, exhaust, boost controller, retuned suspension, retuned computer, clutch, big ass front mount intercooler and prolly an intake. Other than that, bone stock , maybe racing seats, a few gauges in the glove box and just me and 200+ ponies at the wheels in a car thats lighter than a feather.

I am not fond of hopped up Fast and Furious Japanese brand cars. They sound like sewing machines and look like pin ball machines.

Get a Fox body V8 Mustang, bolt on some power bought at swap meets for pennies on the dollar ... and blast out some 12's looking like a MAN. You can have a ball with less than 7 grand.

hahah same here..i hate those fuckin rice burner cars..reminds me of when i was a kid and we use to clothes pin a baseball card in the spokes of our bicycles LOL

69 Camaro can be had fairly ceap and it can be worked to kick ass on the street

Camaros/ Mustangs get owned by import sleepers on a daily basis.

A few years ago a friend of mine put a 300ZX V6 in a '71 Datsun 510.

It wasn't a simple operation, the steering box had to be relocated which required a re-design of the front suspension.

The result was good, though, a 2200 lb. car with a 3.0 liter V6 is pretty fast.

I've thought of the 300zx swap, but the way the engine is configured- I figured, its too much of a friggin headache/ drain on wallet.

What happened to the G35 with the cat prints on the roof?

how about a chevy s-10/blazer with a small block GM v-8 transplated into it?

it's an easy swap, moror mounts readily avialable, it drops right in there! you can keep the factory a/c, change spark plugs...looks like it grew there!

Too bad it would still drive, handle, and brake like a cheap truck.

heres what you do you go buy a 95 civic hatch, put a fully built b16 in it. turbo it, 3 in thermal turbo exhaust, tune, skunk 2 coilovers, integra rear disc brakes (any junkyard) put a lsd in it, a good clutch flywheel package, some nice rota, spoon, mugen, grahm rims, with some sticky ass tires. and go fuck some people up.

www.sunrisejdmmotors.com for the complete motor, tranny, ecu you can also buy a lsd from them.
http://www.dragturbokits.com/ heres a place to get ur turbo kit.

you will prob spend 8136 on parts not including the car. now if you want to go na.

id get a acura type r motor, lsd, clutch/flywheel, run that for a while, put the rims you like. get toda racing cam kit 1800, or get omni power usa cam kit 879.99. toda cam pulleys, get a thermal exhaust,

the engine, car, exhaust, lsd, clutch/flywheel will cost about 6000. put some rims sticky tires on 7200 id run the type r header untill you feel it needs replaced it is a good header to run for a while. if you feel like you need to change it toda has a great head but its expensive 900 bux. go with what your budget says but KEEP IT JDM!!!!!

powerlifter: I want to go NA for the Civic/Crx , and I have considered the LS/VTEC motor...however, I have also heard of some mechanical problems associated with this engine. And the type R motor is pricey , PLUS the installation charges. I'm looking at 1grand for the install alone, 4grand for the motor.. ugh. I'll have to go B16a1- first gen.

Pogo- thats a SICK datsun. Rb26DETT in that car- Skyline GTR motor. Twin Turbo.. :D

im looking at an 02 trailblazer with 275 hp,thats pretty fucking good imo and will kick some rice ass im sure dispite being heavy, and its only 13 grand

then go this route if you can stad driving a girly car get a mazda miata. because of its amazing hadeling and rear wheel drive and light weight chasis out of the box is one of the best handleing econ cars .

get a 13b rotary engine. 225 hp stock twin turbo will make the fun car even lighter.

http://www.sunrisejdmmotors.com/mazda.php

have always conteplated on doing this. Would be a rocket, put a front mount on it, turbo back exhaust, intake, tune, and it would haul.

the 350 v-8 converted s-10 i owned drove, handled and braked MUCH better than any small jap truck i drove or rode in....as well as several rice burners that had trie/wheel/suspension modifications.

parts are dirt cheap compared to foreign stuff and much easier to find.

P.S. in automotive jargon, a "sleeper" is a car/truck that is much QUICKER than what most people think of it; a stop light to stop light rocket. handling, braking is not as much a prioritiy as straight line speed is. using this definition, a V-8 s-10/blazer is one of the ultimate "sleepers" available.
