What is the best head unit under 300?

My fiance and I both have Alpines, both were under that mark, and I think they deliver really great sound quality and good features for the money. I'd definitely reccomend them.

alpine is very good,honestly any of the top brands will be about the same performance wise,one your up that high its all preference,I personally have a jvc head unit,matches my interior,plays cd's,nice deck for 150 cdn

One difference I've noticed though is the signal to noise ratio on the Alpines are always substantially higher than comparably prices leading brands.

It's all about preference. I can't find what I want for under $450. The Alpine CDA-9855 is the one for me. As soon as Apple makes an 80G ipod, I will couple that with the Alpine and have 11,000 songs in my car.
