Captain Obvious On SPAM

I used to get over 300 e-mails a day. I have a few real e-mail accounts that I use, and about 10 domains that also allow [email protected] to pass on to me - all of these accounts are set to forward on to one single account.
So that account got a lot of spam.

I had been setting up filters to just pull out junk mail to the trash, but I still had to glance over them to see if it was pulling out real stuff as well.

then I started going through all the spam I was getting and physically clicking on the links that they have at the bottom of the e-mail and it would say that I was unsubscribed.
I didn't have much faith that they would actually take me off of their list.
but after about a week of doing this - I now get 10 spams a day that I either again try to unsubscribe from, or I just let it filter.

that is a nice large improvement and I'm happy with it.

there is supposedly a new bit of software from one of the Napster guys that will help filter spam really well, there was a bit on it in the new Wired, but there is no indication if that will stay free.

anyway - like I said, that was all very obvious, but hey, I felt like typing :)

I don't understand what you have against canned ham. Nothing wrong with canned ham. Marbles anyone? Don't mind if I do. Don't mind if I do.

oh I wish I had a link to this cartoon that dread lady posted on here once.
it was hilarious - something about Mr. Quacks a lot and it was totally a non-sequitor (sp?)
I have it on my laptop at home.
fantastic.

We are specifically telling our Customer NOT to do this procedure..

Hummm... I'd be interested to know if your addresses get sold and in a week or so the volume goes up..

Let us know.... I'm writing a book..

yeah - that is what I'm wondering as well.
the main server that processes them all will allow me to put procmail on there and filter them out, so I might resort that if it scales back up.

I was expecting at best no change at all, but figured it would go up - but so far it has gone way down.

I kind of miss it, because if it was from a person and not just a bot or a large company, then I would write back and just make up shit.

Oh oh I know this one...

SPAM is Pork Shoulder and Ham Mixed up, hence the letters are as well..

The Corp Mail Men are looking at S/W to block the spam at the Exchange Message Store IMC's,
but I bet a lot of perv's here would complain if they stopped getting their
"CHEAP Viagra" messages.

just saw a thing on slashdot where some guy is talking about doing it in Lisp.
all he is talking about is a probability matrix - that is cool - easy to write and would work well - just a matter of training it on a lot of data.

I think if I had to change my username, I'd change it to CaptainObvious

either that or HankySpanky.
of Buckfutter.
or MonkeyMolester.
