Sleep;....... Im on my fourth time waking up TONIGHT. Insomina sucks

No, nothing...... I've battled this for years.. bah. It comes and goes but lately its been every night. I haven't had a full nights sleep for months

you gotta be stressed out or something. if your mind is racing, it's the same as if it were your body.

now if you lived in England it would be time to get up

Im not ready for a new day yet..... Im tired

start keeping a log of when you sleep and when you wake during your bouts of insomnia, so that you can work out just how much sleep youre really getting. often what you get are people who think taht they are insomnic, but in fact get normal amounts of sleep (7-9hrs or so) in small pieces.

once youve done that and you decide that youre not getting enough sleep, think about your environment and assess if there is something that is making you lose sleep (ie baby in the house, poor security, underlying anxiety, general feelings of discomfort, bad matress, asthma, aches and pains, noises at night...the list goes on)

once you go through all of that and there is no stark sort of reason for your insomnia, chat to your doctor about a sleeping drug (short term...couple weeks max, or just when needed, depending how you want to play it) and get through it

personally im a huge garfield - if i dont sleep enough or dont get a coffee here and there through the day, i dont care if its mike tyson getting on my nerves ill bop him one  (well not really :D i just walk around in a coma with a heart rate of 3 beats per minute ;) )

lol @ batting tyson.....

Well I've actually done that... tracked it and all, bought a new matress, no aches or pains.. stress YES. I've been like this since late in my teens... (yep thats a long time.. no wise jokes dammit)

I've been put on a few different things mild basically some anit depressants that made me more irratible so I stopped taking them. I've also been given a sleeping pill.. i'll have to dig up the bottle cause for the life of me i can't remember the name.

I have no problem going to sleep..its staying asleep i struggle with.

I've figured I get less than 5 hours per night some nights... i wake up about ever two hours for no reason.. wide awake and don't know why.

time to replace the matress again I think. I've just become used to not sleeping.

yes it's most irritating when your body clock isn't in sync with your routine

if i haven't slept the previous night i'll have a glass of wine in the afternoon before lying down for a nice siesta

that works for me...you'll find something that works for you

You need to self service, just before beddy by. Get into a routine. That way you won't spend all night with your hands in your panties waking yourself up.

Actually, that sounds like stress to me. My wife gets the same way every year just before year end. She's a book keeper.

shoot i was up till about 3 3:30 this a.m then my son woke up at about 6:30..talk about tired...and moody!

You're not alone Frisky, I'm the same way. I have trouble falling asleep, then when I finally do, if I wake up to Pee I can't go back to sleep. I average 5 hours a night. It's wearing me down physically and emotionally. Good luck with it.

damn...I thought you were dead or something...

Talk to your Dr. about getting sleep meds.....

I've been reading lately that Yoga is supposed to help people with insomnia....

ok well if its stress related, the obvious thing is to find with the root cause of the stress, and deal with it - which can be complicated. chances are its the big obvious things (ie your job situation at the moment)

anyhow, so long as you do at some point deal with the underlying cause (or it resolves on its own in a short time) and your eyes are popping open in the middle of the night, i would skip the sleeping drugs taht just send you off to sleep (like zolpidiem, which i think is ambien...not sure tho) and then are removed from your body in a couple of hours (since theyre destroyed by your body, and so cant keep you asleep when we want you to be asleep) and go for one of the drugs that will sedate you a bit over the course of hours, and perhaps keep you asleep. drug choice will depend on your doctor, but chances are they will suggest a benzodiazepine (think valium with a shorter active life) which can sometimes result in crappy sleep, and also, a bit of drowsiness the next day. chat to your doctor about it, but theyre fairly safe drugs to use, and youll know after taking one or two if theyre doing the job. its the only real way to tell.

interrupted sleep in a young healthy person after youve excluded all the obvious stuff (as per previous post) can be a real pain in the ass to treat if its chronic. youre cornered into giving people drugs, which sucks. (im a huge fan of fixing the root cause of problems, rather than popping pills for the next 5 decades, if possible)

so yeeeeees, there you go. oh, and by the way, dont discount the value of sex/orgasms in getting good sleep. (lol can you picture me in my white coat in a pharmacy saying that, then whipping out a huge, quivering pink dildo? :lmao: "yes mrs smith, you can use the ambien, the valium, or just give yourself a good rogering with this baby here, and just for 39.99" ;))

good luck :)

Try writing in a journal. When I can't sleep, it's usually because I have a million things running through my mind. It's not necessarily stressing out it's just that I can't slow the wheels of my mind. When I write in my journal it's like a release. If I can put my thoughts down on paper, it's almost like I've put those things to rest or at least put them on hold until I am ready to deal with them.

Second alternative is to read until I start falling asleep. Usually only takes 15-30 min. and I'm out.

Just something to try.

Nyquil is awesome.

i'll bet it started since ur bodyfat % dropped real low. I have same problem when I get too low for too long on bf%

its due to 2 reasons I think:
1) ur probably avoiding carbs. long term carb depletion = lower serotonin levels (serotonin plays important role in regulating sleep). less serotonin = disturbed sleep.

fix = try to give urself more carb up days.

2) separate from above, the lower the bodyfat percentage, and/or the more severe the fast, the higher the ratio of muscle lost to fat lost becomes, as the body fights harder to hold on to the fat. even if ur just trying to maintain, if bf % is too low, body goes into starvation syndrome below, and you burn muscle tissue (via higher cortisol release)

when you burn muscle, its broken into component amino acids for use in gluconeogenesis. however lysine, tyrosine and phenylalanine are not used and left circulating. all 3 have the ability to cross blood-brain barrier and have a nervous system excitatory effect (try 1 gram of L-phenylalanine on an empty stomach one day if you doubt this). THIS KEEPS YOU WIRED and unable to relax or sleep.

fix = since these AA's compete with other AA's to cross blood-brain barrier (& have nervous system effect), eat some whole protein (or liquid protein mix) b4 bed - wont mess up diet too bad, & wont spike insulin so wont blunt REM GH release. if u get the protein from turkey, u also get higher levels of natural tryptophan which will help sleep as well.

Or not.

p.s. you left out the "...." in your thread title :D

I think its stress but unfortunately for me the stress can't be just forgotten about, but will be dealed with.
