Well bro, I went to Cancun for spring break a couple of years ago and when I arrived (in the airport) all the kids (looked like several hundred) were going through customs they checked random bags and when they got to me, they must have not liked the way I looked because they actually took my shaving cream, deodorant etc. and left to x-ray them, came back and told me to follow them to a private room, harassed me and semi-stip searched me, and I had nothing on me! And the guy in front of me in the line had a pipe on him and they didn't do shit to him. When I finally left the private room, all the kids were gone. I was singled-out of all those fuckin kids!! So the lesson here is you never know.

Thats not the comforting info I was looking for, Since my plan is to bring some gear back and gear is legal down there will they care that you are taking it back? what about on the US side? would it be better to put it in my carry on or luggage?

This is a technique I used a few times in Cancun....I would take Airline size bottles of Kahluha. Sterlize them by steaming,alcohol then inject the sust, sten, deca..you can put alot of cc's into one of those bottles..If customs checks they see liquor in a dark bottle.

Actually that the safest way to bring stuff back. If you take the time to properly sterilize the bottles you should have no problems.
