hey guys. I am thinking of joining the CAF in maybe a few months. What should i expect with boot camp? i am thinking infantry. i have always wanted to be in the infantry;however, i would like to be deployed. can you requeast to be deployed?

Don't you fret a whisker, you'll get a tour within your first three years for SURE with the infantry.

If you have any questions, you can pm me.

Boot camp starts in Saint Jean, where you do your basic military skills course, than you move on to your trade training. The infantry school is in Gagetown (Oromocto) New Brunswick if you are an officer and , depending on your regiment, you will do your basic Infanteer course at either MEaford, Edmonton, or Valcartier (Ithink, not sure where the Vandoos do their basic infantry course).

Remember, when they say what regiment you want to be a member of, you say"Royal Canadian Regiment, Please" :)

fuck that bro you want PPCLI ,but I wouldnt join again in combat arms,it fucking sucks ass, when 3Vandoo who is a officer wants out you know there is some fucked up shit. But PPCLI is the best we have for infantry if you go that route. out of all the combat arms armoured would probably be the most fun,if you are driving the tanks and shit

good luck it will fucking suck

Why would it suck? I think it would be awesome. Guards-How long and intensive, physically and mentally is bootcamp? After boot, do you go straight to trade training? If so how long is the entire process? What is the average ago of new recruits?

Is the training standards high ex- are the troops well trained and properly equipped? I want to be the best not second rate, I have always wanted to be in infantry;however; SPF preferred! Is there a good chance to ever join JTF2 or is that TOO elitist? Fuckin Aye, any ex-canadian soldiers become mercenaries? I want to see some real fucking combat.
thanks.

What does one do in a day? either reserve or full-time?
Do you guys get bitched at by superiors alot?

really we did nothing really in reserves, cleaned alot of rifles, lots of drill and some SaT(simulated training) and we occasionally took our equipment out to a local training area and practiced settting up the howitzers and learning the ways of the gun

but when your on course, lots of rush and inspection, classes and such and yelling is minimal aslong as your squad isnt total fuck ups, just do what your told and it will be ok.

good luck if you decide to do it,you may like it but it was my cup of tea,not reserves anyway,3Vandoo can tell you about the bullshit in regs infantry

I respect the police force but I'd rather kill people then talk to people. But seriosuly, I could not deal with all the BS cops deal with. I don't have the right temperment for it. The Army is where it is at.

RCMP is in theory and historically a reserve regiment of the Canadian Army. Not every mountie is a patrol officer. Some are in the ERT, others as VIP protection, detectives, ......... Bootcamp at Regina is worse than the one you'll find in the army.

True, it may be harder but there is a big difference in terms of being a police officer and soldier. BTW VIP work sounds interesting. One question for you manny;is it easier to be selected into the police force if you were previously in the military?

1. The training is as challenging as you make it out to be...it really isn't that bad if you have a little stamina and a good sense of humor.

2. Canada doesn't really have a "boot camp" per se...you do your general service qualification than you move on to trade training. Officer takes about 2-3 years to complete all basic courses (4 phases) and NCO takes about 6-8 months, depending on the trade.

3. Infantry rocks! A little hard on the knees, but other than that it's a good go.

4. Don't worry about JTF now, WAY too far away to even think about at this stage. Concentrate on being a soldier first.

5. You don't want to see combat my friend.

PS

Hey Oak, I realize you did some reserve(TUNE):) work but that really isn't an accurate depiction of the CF at all. The difference between a reserve regiment and a regular force regiment is like night and day. For one it is a hobby, for the other it is a way of life.

PPS
How can you judge that the Prickley's are better than anyone else? Infantry is infantry....just posted in different locations. There may be a little friendly rivalry, but when it comes down to it they are all the exact same.

Thanks for all the good info. Would it be wise to join the reserves then full-time or just go straight to full time?
I am thinking of doing it this summer. BTW I am 19. Is that an allright age to be joining as a full-time soldier or should I wait alittle longer?
thanks.

I am assuming you would be applying as an NCM, so 19-25 is about the average of most recruits.

If it was me, I would go reg's right off the bat. Sign your 3 year contract and have a fucking great time. The reserves will make the Army look like a fucking circus full of complete and utter retards (That statement may be true of the entire army but the reserves have a much higher proportion of these said retards). I believe this is what happened to Oak....went reserves first and got cocked:( Too bad, he sounded like he'd make a spot on grunt.

If there is anything i can do to help, don't hesitate to ask.

It will help for sure. No doubt, but without a degree you wont go very high in the hierarchy. But doesnt matter since the pay check is good and you'll have many opportunities. But yes it will definitely help.

just busting your balls ,my uncle was PPCLI so I am partial to them lol

I definatly shouldnt have gone reserve and like you said its night and day,I just described the shit I went through and was tired of being a fucking janitor, hell we must have did inventory of old gear for two weeks strait.on top of other cleaning shit day in and out.

Regs could still be in the cards but I just dont know,I am atleast going to college and may be a MP after I get my police foundations

MP??!! Do you want everyone on base to hate you? LOL There is still the infantry Oak, good times my young friend.

The reserves is where boy scouts go to retire....lol

Isnt it pretty hard to support a family on a Infantrymen's pay,I plan to get married and shit one day and I know MP's start at 56k right now because our forces cant keep anyone and Infantry is about 35k at most to start

I'm not sure what MP you've been talking to but their salary starts at the same level as any other NCM. Pay is based on rank, not occupation dude.

It's only a 3 year contract, get married and have kids later. Take advantage of being young and have some fun.

BTW supporting a family on a CF salary isnt that hard at all...you've got a GIANT family to help you out.

The recruiters have told me that and even some of the ncm's I was friends with who were tied into recruiting. the only reason they have better pay is they cant keep many people on and you must have college even to be a ncm

I was at the CF website and they list the infantry battalions as being in alberta, ontario and quebec. If I joined full-time would I have to move or could I serve in BC? like CFB esquimalt or something.

isn't Esquimalt a navy base ?

Than you have ansered your own question...lol

If you are going out west you'll most likely be in Edmonton or Cold Lake, that is the PPCLI

If you are with the RCR, it is either Petawawa Ont. or Gagetown NB.

I am assuming you aren't french, so you won't end up with the vandoo's.

So where are you at now Guards? with stationing and rank etc, the more the days go by the more I think of regs and if I dont get into a good college I will be joining regs definatly

I've been out for almost 2 years now.....I decided to go back to school and try something new. I miss the CF all the time, even though i had sworn i would never miss it. Miss my friends and my old place.....same sappy shit.

Anyways, you'll never regret time spent in the regular force. If you have the opportunity, i say do it.

Hell I could up and go tomorrow if that was the case,Im not doing shit all but stupid fucking temp work here and its horrible,I am a factory bitch doing shit the real workers wont. I find out if I get into a college close to home by mid april at latest and if I cant live at home I wont be going to college because I have no cash ,my dad makes to much for me to get OSAP and wont help me because he is a asshole. so me thinks its time to get on the phone to the recruiters again

Well you convinced me to join full-time. PPCLI is my battalion. Fuck ontario lol One question, I am under the impression that "boot camp" is in the summer. Is this correct? If it is, is it still possible to join full-time in september?

I am thinking so as they had reg infantry at meaford when we were there last summer.hopefully you wont do your MOC at meaford, those infantry guys up there were in holding platoon for 2 months waiting for they course to start

ACtually, they run basic training courses all year long. They just opened the trades back up for enlistment, so you may want to get down to a recruiter asap. I did my ql3 in the winter time and i did my last to phases in the winter as well.

The guys out at meaford are RCR, cause that is the RCR infantry school.
