Shyte man. This is really cracking me up. This is not an AS post, and I can sense a little hostility. I am from Canada and I am in an Internet Cafe in Panama right now, and I am reading this post with an american friend. I just found out about Canada winning the cup last night. Alls I can say right now is FUCK YA!
A few comments or should I say opinions on what you guys are saying.
The population thing is a valid argument. Bringing countries like india in defense to that is ridiculous.
Second, money is another big factor. USA and Germany in particular do dump a tun of coin into there athletes, coaches, facilities training etc.
You don|t need cold whether to play hockey. How many olympic games sis you see played outside?
It was a good game on both sides, but Canada came through. I am proud of both teams, but I do not like to think of it as North America won. Where is our identity in that? We dont think like that when you guys win a medal. We are a seperate country as are you.
It is not about stomping another country, its about the sport. We don|t care whos ass we kicked to win the gold, were just proud to have won it (although after reading some of these posts now, i am glad that it was the US that we beat. hehehe).
I do have to admitt, some of the attitudes on some of you yanks never ceases to amaze me! Don|t get me wrong I have no problem with the us, but after travelling for the last 2 months, I have actually got to see how much of the other world thinks of both Canada and the US. Let me tell you that it is 2 totally different attitudes. So much that it really blows my mind. As for the post stating that some yanks, take off there badge and sew the Canada flag on there pack .... I never thought that this was true, until I started travelling. My friend here from California has the Canada badge sewn on his pack. He put in when he was in Europe and kept it on ever since. Depending on where he is, when asked where he is from, he says Canada. He tells me that he is just treated much better. It kinda pisses me off a little bit as he is still an american. Its kinda sad that you cant travel with your countries flag in pride.
Anywhoo, enough said, we are both great countries and we are and always will be neighbors. During my travels I just got to have another glimpse of what some of the other countries of the world think. Hockey has and always will be a big part of life in Canada. Its part of our heritage and we love it so much. Of course we are gonna have better players, its a way of life up here, just as you guys and your football. The game is over now, and we will see what happens next time. Im actually glad that this post didnt get removed, i think that it gives people a bit of a break and something to ponder on.
Just one last thing... 5-3. Thats a bit of a spanking! hehe
Peace
