The reason for the confusion is that people improperly cite abstracts and clinical studies when they attempt to apply it to bodybuilders.
What they fail to read, or mention, is that the test subjects were taking 10, maybe 20mg per day. So, liver enzymes didn't show a lot of stress. Same with the whole HTPA ordeal. At 10-20mg a day, most people won't experience total shutdown. So, now you have people scurrying about the internet after having read that, and saying you can basically take all the var you want because it doesn't shut you down or hurt your liver. Just like alchohol, or pretty much anything else, there is a threshold of dosing where the body can carry about its business with minimal consequence.
