Can someone help me understand the national debt?

Didn't Clinton are one of the Dems come close to balancing the budget?
lol.....no, clinton was closer than others. you have to expect in a time of war we're going to spend a shit load of money. people act like it's never happened, well b/c 99% people posting here haven't been alive during a time of war.
WWII cost us MORE than the current war and think of what the dollar was worth back then.

Yes, he was running surpluses for the deficit. That never made it to the national debt though (I dont think)

Clinton came damn close, IMO. But when war goes down, we go down. That is just the way it is. It's gonna take years and years to even get within' eyesight of what Clinton and all did. We are that far behind. And its going to get worse.

If the national debt stays the same for long enough inflation makes it less and less.
Example, you owed 10,000 in 1980. You could buy a fairly nice car for that.
Debt never increases and it's 2008. $10,000 is now a down payment on a car.
Some political types think like that BTW.
The national debt has a very low interest rate so the best thing would be for raging inflation. How do you get raging inflation? Print more money and flood the world with it.

LOL that was funny, but I do get the point. What little rise did occur over the past couple months on the dollar will fall, it's a matter of time. Lots of things to look at, not just charts. It's sad really, because when this happens we will be in a bit of deep water with the rest of the world. If we collapse, only a few countries will go down, in my opinion. And who will pick them up? Same country that will pick us up over here.... I need not say their name as you know.
