Can it really be? Kerry won all 3 debates but...

What's really interesting is that they're now just getting mad about it. Meanwhile you didn't hear a peep about it when it was brought up in the Cheney/Edwards debate. I don't see what's the big deal though, unless the Cheney's really ARE embarrassed of their daughter. Might be the case considering after the Cheney/Edwards debate all of Cheney's family was on stage EXCEPT for Mary Cheney. Who knows.

I would really like to know what the VPrez would say to his daughter if she wanted to get married. Personally, I don't see an issue with the statement.

this "incident" shows how desperate the bushmeister spin doctors are.....they must be buying Maalox by the cases by now.

how come it was all right for THEM to mention his gay daughter, but now it's not ok for anyhone to mention it???

ABB! ABB! ABB! ABB! ABB! ABB! ABB!

It's perfectly valid to bring up Cheney's daughter. She is gay and her father (who happens to be the VP) supports a man who wants to limit the rights of homosexuals and treat them as second class citizens. How can he face his daughter every day?

Again, what's the big deal here. Cheney's daughter is gay. This isn't news. And it's nothing that anyone should be ashamed about. The Cheney's should be proud of their daugther, regardless of her sexual preference.

The Cheney's are mad because they are ashamed of their daughter being gay.

EXACTAMUNDO...It's very easy to see what they're doing here.No reaction to it,until they discovered that they may NEED to use it to try and make up some ground.Pure desperation.

Maybe they value privacy? No idea....

Ohh...and that is a freind of mine in your avatar.

to exploit his own child's innermost feelings and desires is a (pathetic) indication of what low morals and what high desperation levels are evident in the bush/chenny group today.

Kerry is a briliant man and a great debater. He intentionally used this example and chose to use the word lesbian to sort of turn the tables and hammer home a point. Perfectly legitimate IMO.

The problem is, he miscalculated politically, and underestimated Karl Rove's ability to spin. The score is tied right now, and any little thing can make a difference. The Bush team is crying "foul" right now, which has got Kerry on his heels and apologetic instead of riding the wave of victory after the debates.

All of the news shows are talking about this, and it is just interesting to see how this has become an albatross for the democrats.

Bush should get some credit for debating 3 times
conventional wisdom is you don't debate when you are in the lead, which he was quite comfortably post RNC
especially 3 times
Bush didn't bug out
he even got interviewed by O'Reilly

I think thier spin will back fire. It sure is coming off as if Cheneys daughter being gay is something they are ashamed of that shouldnt be mentioned in public.-

Yes, it was a good gesture of fairness to debate 3 times, and showed he is a good man. But it was dumb.

He should have agreed to debate on the condition that Ralph Nader be included, and only debated once.

He will win anyway though.

Wasting your breather Longhorn

Libs have no concept of common decency, which is why they are so out of touch with most of the country.

Same thing happened in 2002 with the funeral in Minnesota. They didnt get it then, and they wont get it now

What's interesting is how desperate the R spin machine is to focus on a non-issue like this. Out of 3 debates and THIS is the focus of their counter-attack to Kerry's victorys?

We have more important things to worry about...

sounds about right

I think that any discussion about the children by politicians should be limited to their own family. Some think all is fair in love, politics, and war.....but this is low even for the most liberal of all, Kerry. It was a demonstration of despiration by Kerry that ultimately backfired. Ironic that all the liberal media is heavily publicizing this contraversial issue.....must increase ratings....just like the BS that Kerry is ahead on some polls.

The debates are essentially job interviews. Would you slam the children of other potential candidates during your job interview? If so, would you then expect to be hired? ......4 more.

Did he slam Cheney's gay daughter? How?

Just in case anyone missed it, here's the exact quote. Does this sound like it naturaly flows from the question to any of you?

Quote:
Q:Both of you are opposed to gay marriage. But to understand how you have come to that conclusion, I want to ask you a more basic question. Do you believe homosexuality is a choice?

(Bush answer)

Q:Senator Kerry?

A:We're all God's children, Bob. And I think if you were to talk to Dick Cheney's daughter, who is a lesbian, she would tell you that she's being who she was, she's being who she was born as.

Kerry Sorry for Remark About Cheney's Lesbian Child
by Scott Ott

(2004-10-14) -- John Forbes Kerry, father of two heterosexual daughters, today apologized for referring to the sexual preference of Vice President Dick Cheney's daughter during last night's final presidential debate.

"There's nothing wrong with being one of God's homosexual children," said Mr. Kerry, an openly-heterosexual veteran of foreign war who is also a U.S. Senator, "And far be it from me to pry into the private life of Mr. Cheney's lesbian child, who is gay and a homosexual. People can't choose whom they will love, and so I should not have mentioned that his daughter is a lesbian person, and not a heterosexual, but in fact a gay homosexual woman who is a lesbian with the last name Cheney."

Mr. Kerry said he would send a card to the vice president's daughter to fully express his regrets.

"I'm sure Hallmark has a nice collection of cards that say things like, 'I'm sorry I talked about your sexual preferences on national TV," said Mr. Kerry. "But I wasn't trying to remind conservatives that the vice president has a daughter who is not heterosexual, but rather a homosexual lesbian gay woman named Cheney."

Mr. Kerry's running mate, John Edwards, will reportedly issue an apology tomorrow for similar remarks he made during his debate with Mr. Cheney.

BS. Kerry did not 'slam' Cheney's daughter (see Alan Keyes for that). He quite rightly cited her as an excellent example of the hypocrisy in this administration. Dick Cheney supports Bush on limiting the rights of gays and amending the constitution so that they are not afforded the same rights as heterosexuals.................and his own daughter is gay? That's fucked up.

If anybody has some explaining to do here, it's Dick Cheney, not John Kerry.

Precisely why it was a cheap low blow. they did it deliberately in an attempt to embarass the Cheneys and Bush. They understand that the majority of Americans are against gay marriage and they took the chance to remind everyone that Cheney's daughter is gay and, oh by the way, the President and VP don't really agree on this issue. Cheney let it go the first time, but enough was enough. What Kerry and Edwards BOTH did is an old lawyer trick. If you want the jury to hear something that you know is not really relevant to the trial, just say it anyway. The other side can object, but its already out there and can't be taken back.

if you really think this wasn't a calculated attempt to hurt Bush/Cheney by using Cheney's kid, how do you account for this quote.

Mary Beth Cahill, Kerry Campaign Chairperson, right after the debate, "...Cheney's daughter is fair game..."

I never said it wasn't a calculated attempt and she is fair game. Anyone who has a gay daughter and yet supports his boss in limiting her rights is a monster.

If your daughter was gay and fell in love with someone, do you not think they should be afforded some rights as a couple? If not, please explain how you would rationalize this with her.

Kerry's gonna win Longhorn. You live in Texas? We'll get together and celebrate the victory. And if by some miracle or by cheating, GB pulls it out, I'm a good sport so I'll celebrate your victory as well.

has anyone noticed that LH has admitted that his boy actually LOST?

and he will lose in November also!

Well since all the other repub spins have blown up in their face regarding Iraq, economy, health care, etc... I guess this is the last resort. A lesbian.

I fear if the election were not so soon, in the next week we would see them spinning and decrying Kerrys' bash against cartoon characters.

I don't live in Austin anymore, but I am always up for a party. You will have to put your britches on first though.

Great point, if you watch the replay you can see when Kerry utters the word "lesbian" that it was a loaded answer. The fact that the GOP has made it backfire is priceless.
