I don't think so, as long as you don't push it all the way in. I have used 1.5 in the quads and had no problems. I just didn't push it all the way in, I tried to keep about 1/4-1/2 inch out. I used my other hand to hold the needle (the plastic part just above the actual needle, not the barrel of the syringe) steady while depressing the plunger with the other You'll know if you push it in too far. It won't kill you, but might hurt like hell if you go too far. If you are worried, get some shorter ones. 1.5's are all I have other than some 5/8" that I have no idea what I am going to use them for.
