Can cutoms drug dogs smell...

i went to a county fair last fall where the police were showing off their K9 unit. did you ever wonder how the dogs are able to sniff out these narcotics?
the trainers give the dogs a treat at the same time they put the narcotic, such as cocaine, in front of them. therefore the dogs associate the smell they find with getting something to eat. they see it as a game. i thought that was kind of cool.

I've gone thru aiport security with prescrip meds with no problem.....one of the meds was Ambien, if that helps at all.....

Are you worried about it on your person, or near you? Or is this more of a mail thing?
If you are removed from the item in question, as long as it blends in, then I really don't think it will matter - the dogs aren't trained to find that (plus there are so many common fillers in pills that they would likely false positive frequently).
But if you are going to be near the stuff - like it will be on you or in the bags you are carrying - then I would worry much more about giving it away via the way you look than I would about the dogs smelling it.
Unless the dogs are trained to smell fear/unease.

don't carry them across with your car. how many are you talkin? if it's less than 500 just bring a roll of 3" tape and ask the pharmacist to let you use the restroom after you've bought them. put them all on the tape and wrap it around your upper leg underneath boxer briefs. takes a few minutes but you don't run the risk of having your vehicle impounded and thoroughly searched.
as for an airplane, just put them in another pill bottle. use a script bottle but if they won't fit use a large vitamin bottle and stack vitamins on top once you put the other stuff in.
