Can a non techie run 2 operating systems with two hard drives on one computer???

I have XP on a 60 GB hard drive, I like XP but I need another hard drive that is much larger for quality video editing.

I would like Windows 98 because my large format (17x22) printer is optimized for that OS.

This seems like it might be headaches though.....two hard drives with different OS's.

yeah you can do it, but i don't know why the printer would have a problem with XP
There are only very minimal XP drivers available. No functions like available ink and the ability to stop a print job does not work very well. It is an older printer, I bought it so I could print on 17x22 paper.

You can do it. You just have to select which Hard drive turns on first depending on what you want to use at that time.

Are you running the video editing with XP?

I did for a very short time but my hard drive does not have enough room to do a big, high quality video job.

You can put the 50 Gigabytes of porn you have onto CD-Rs then you will have room for video editing.

It is possible to run two or more operating system on *1* hard drive, but you will require to probably partition the hard drive

Buy a cheap computer off of Ebay for $150 or so. It will be easier than dual booting... (for the non-techie dude) If you fuckup trying to install a dual boot system, you loose EVERYTHING.

Jnuts has a point. YOu can run shit windoze 98 on just about anything. You cant use more than an 8 gig harddrive anyways. Unless you partition the hell out of it.

You only have 700 MB of nekkid girls, jeez man that's really sad.

I used to do professional video editing with much smaller HDs than 60 gig. Shit, when I was doing it, those weren't even available. You can store about 20 minutes of high grade video per gig. So, unless you are making a trilogy, I don't see the problem.

To hell with it though, just go buy a 120 for a hundred bucks and you'll be set.

jnuts.... my friend recently decided to install linux on his machine running xp..... the result..... somehow the partition with XP got erased, along with his documents/music/pictures and all other stuff he had for the past 8 years. The guy had a break down. Always back up your important stuff and be careful when you mess with operating system installations

I will not touch that with a 10 foot pole.

I've had massive computer problems that made me quit computers for years at a time. I don't try to get fancy anymore. Too many memories.

I just setup 4 machines at the house to dual boot linux. You have to be kinda careful what you are doing. The computer hooked up to the television boots 98/win2k/Linux. Not too hard to do, if you know what you are doing.

I bet "fdisk /mbr" might have brought back his XP partition....

Off-lease low end pentiums can be picked up for song off ebay. I bought my kids a pair of PII 450 machines for $100/per. If all you need is a print server... that be the way to go.

Is it an HP printer? They have jet direct network printing that is nice, but a bit pricey.
