So i've spent the last 3 days either in bed either being sick into a bucked or crawling to the toilet. I've only just started eating again. Really bad back ache and sweats too. Now that i'm at least better i'm still dizzy walking etc...

Is there any way of telling if this is food poisioning or just some virus?

Reason i'm asking is i've recently started taking these meal replacment shakes and need to know if they might have been the cause.

...and no i don't want to go to a doctors surgery at Christmas and be surrounded by idiots in the waiting area with self inflicted illness.

It's usually difficult to tell if it is the meal replacement unless it has an odor. The problem with food poisoning is it can take 1 1/2 hours to 24 hours to show its ugly head. If you have been sick the whole time since you first started eating them there is a real good chance it is food poisoning from them. Stop eating them and either go to a walk in clinic and be checked out for food poisoning or hang on a day or two to see if you feel better. If you do report it to the place you purchased the meal replacement from and call the authorities because it could kill someone else.

It's rare that something like a meal replacement would cause food poisoning however the chemicals in it could be causing a reaction.

You might have just caught a nasty flu bug which can hit you like a freight train - up to four days of venting everything from your body. Sounds more like that to me especially if the symptoms are easing off and you can now eat again. Sweats should mean you have a fever and it's breaking, then coming back - classic sign of the flu. And the backache is also a classic symptom.

Make sure you're drinking lots of water and stuff like Gatorade to keep your water and electrolytes up while you're puking/crapping. Give it another 48 hours and it may just go away on its own.
