Call from FBI Postal Inspector PLEASE HELP RICK COLLINS

I had a call today from FBI postal inspector. They talked to one of my parents. Asked if she knew what a 1,000 money order was about. The person I sent the money is in trouble with law. It was for you guessed it gear. If I tell them it was for something else will they leave me alone. I am cleaning house as we speak. Thanks for any help.

I think the smart think here is to say nothing. Speak through your attorney. Law enforcement can and will lie to you. They are far more experienced then you are at this and you might find them scaring you into saying things to incriminate yourself.
I know it sounds like a huge hassle getting legal rep, but they're not calling you to help you out, they're looking to jam you up.
I'm no legal expert but simply sending someone money isn't alot of incrimination on your part, but what you might say while being questioned might end up being.

Yes, genarr4 has it right. A suspect can only hurt himself by talking. Having a lawyer put in a simple phone call (saying, "Don't talk to my client, talk to me") throws a cross-body block at law enforcement, because they're forced to rely on the evidence OTHER THAN the confession they ultimately would have squeezed and hammered out of you. :smash:

BTW, there are no FBI postal inspectors. FBI are the general federal police. They've got their hands so full these days with counter-terrorism activities that they've been unable to perform many other duties. Bank robberies are now remaining with local PD's robbery divisions for investigation.

In any event, Postal inspectors are series 1811 federal criminal investigators, appointed by the US Postal Service to investigate violations of the United States Code pertaining to domestic mail. I would expect their enforcement activities to continue to rise because they are expanding their ranks and are still in the midst of the largest hiring push in 20 years. The DEA has been putting trainees through Basic Agent Training (BAT) classes at Quantico on almost a monthly basis, and it is rumored that the agency will be growing by over 200 agents next fiscal year. Consider yourselves warned.

It's amazing to see that a country with a constant terrorism threat has time and ressources to spend on a 1000$ deal bust...

Considering that the FBI is concerned with domestic terrorism and the funding of it, it's very possible they are looking at you from a "funding" standpoint. In other words, wondering if you are donating to the "cause" of anti American interests.

Just a thought on the matter, not everything is as clear cut as it seems at times.

I get the feeling that since they called you instead of busting you they didn't have sufficient evidence to bust you yet and were probably calling you to get info as part of an ongoing investigation. Any info they get from you could be used to bust who knows how many people, maybe even yourself.

Havent heard anything from this guys since the 11th thats probably not a good thing.:wodin:

Of course there is something called OFAC (Office of Foreign Asset Control). An entire list set up by OFAC to stop the flow of money to certain recipients. Thats why wiring money to someone may immediately throw up a flag and get you a few phone calls. www.ustreas.gov/ofac Check it out. Ive done a lot of work with OFAC compliance at my last job.
