cable tv question

I'm in a new apartment, and when i bought a regular TV antenna to get in channels from a nearby city instead i got really fuzzy cable channels. What should've been Fox was the history channel, NBC was CSPAN, i also got ESPN, MTV, etc. etc. Why is it doing that?

Anyway, i'm hoping that this means that i can get analog cable, because if it were digital i probably wouldn't be getting anything. However, i have no cable hookups. The apartment is cable ready but not hooked up.

Also, supposedly insight communications will hook up a cable modem next week. Can i just hook a descrambler up to that (i am afraid they may use digital cable)? What i don't know is do i have to know what type of descrambler they use in this area or could i just buy a bulletproof universal descrambler on ebay and hope it works.

The clearmax 6000 & Ranger 9000 look like good models to choose from. Does anyone have these on insight communications.

bro your getting signal from a leaky amp. it happens just before they go bad but hooking up a box will not help.

what do you mean leaky amp. You mean from my antenna or someone elses cable box or what?

Your picking up Ingress, Cable leaking from a loose connector or a cut drop etc. No you will not be able to tap into the modem line for TV. It will be trapped out side for that freq. Trust me we have sniffers to tell what is going on. I have busted many of people hooked up illegally. But never with a descrambler

IS THERE A WAY TO GET ALL MY CHANNELS FROM MY DIGITAL CABLE OTHER THAN FROM THEM DOING IT AT THE CABLE COMPANY? I WAS GETTING ALL THE MOVIE CHANNELS (I.E..HBO, ENCORE, ETC, ETC) BUT NOW I ONLY HAVE THE HBO CHANNELS. I HAVE SATELLITE WITH PROGRAMMED CARDS BUT I ONLY HAVE A DIGITAL PACKAGE OFFERING CERTAIN CHANNELS.

I cant speak for all cable systems but anymore it has to have a hit sent to it via our system. Unless you were to get one from the office install it yourself and it had been missed to be cleared which has happened. Ive tried a few things for friends before but it never last or they get caught. The box talks back to the system via the cable for billing etc. Not like the old days .

why can't i pick up cable? Why do you say 'but never with a descrambler', do you mean they aren't detectable? What is a sniffer.

All I know is I had cable disconnected a year ago and the cable is still on. The basic cable is anyway. I was gonna reconnect with digital again. I figured I'd just ride this out while it last until I move which will be in a few months.

F/n Show----- Make sure your connection's are tight and you'll be fine. probably a lazy tech did the disco and left it on. happens all the time. When someone knows they are quiting...

Sniffer------- Detects a signal that is in the cable, that leaks when the ends are loose or the line is cut. Just like the gas service puts a smell in the gas to tell when its leaking.

Descramblers can not be detected. I'm not up on how well they work would like to know myself. on the job for 6 years and never caught anyone with one.

8 out of 10 times if you just hit up a young cable guy with 20.00 to hook you up on the side its done be-for you get the money out.
