Who here owns & uses a cable descramber. Any model recommendations, or are they all the same (assuming they are a universal model).

Do the cable companies have any methods of destroying or detecting the usage of descramblers.

You need to have one with a surge protector or it will get zapped.
The boxes kick ass. If you have satellite, you can get a card... and pick up on 300+ channels. If you're just talking a regular black box... I'd say you're looking at about $200. They work.

in todays market they recomend that you buy a box that is the same as your current cable box...when you call they will ask for the model number. They run about 350, and they are so good these days cable companies can't detect them

just go to e-bay. they are universial now. a friend recently bought one and it was universial and about 150. real nice unit.

dont sweat getting zapped. ive always heard that. i bought them wholesale and sold them as a way to make money. i probaly sold about 200 and never once knew someone who got hit. never. i had mine for about five years and never had a problem. i went to satelite two years ago and have been fucked with ever since, but its worth it.
