Buying a video camera, need your help

alright EFers now here is the deal.
i'm going to buy a new video camera within the next month.

3k is the limit on my budget.
do you think i could get a reasonable camera with that price range?

if so do any of you know anything about cameras? or what would be my best bet.

if u know very ltitle about camcorders - for now, pickup the canon hv20 to start off. It's like learning guitar and buying a $5g les paul. Start off cheap and easy til you know exactly what will fit your needs. Every camera is different from tape-oriented sd, to $30k RED camera and raid setups.

When i'm buying stuff like that I usually look at the top ten list from pcworld or CNET and find the one I like best of those. I read other reviews to narrow down the list. I'm looking for a new slim digital camera now and then an entry level Digital SLR for spring.
