and is it a bad or good thing ?

education runs an empire. You keep people uneducated they have no way to improve.

Wasn't the fall of Rome from the burning of all thier books/knowledge?

i think it's a good thing.

success means you outwitted your opponent (customers). it's darwinism on a business level.

money is easy to come by if you are smart enough, it's not your fault others aren't able to do the same.

You're probably right. But hey, if you were a businessman for a second what would you do ? :D

I guess I misread the purpose of this thread. I guess they are basing there statement on the recent firms getting caught doing fraudulant things and misleading investors(the uninformed if you say)?

That is wrong for people to have faith in a system that will fail them, I agree.

I was thinking more of the terms of taking advantage of situations while uninformed people don't have the option and are left struggling.

that is a crime in Canada (insider's fraud) and I guess it's the same in the US.

Wouldn't that be "outwitted your opponent (competitors)?"

Yeah there are scams out there, but a lot of the time people are looking for something that they know is too good to be true.

big business, small business, ebusiness, friendly business, etc.

it doesn't matter. at every level it seems like the best way to get ahead is exploit others stupidity.

here's some examples:

supplement industry. the general public will buy anything that says "(verb) muscle/fat FAST!" the industry caters to this and charges outrageous prices to foolish customers. in reality if the person had a bit of ambition he/she could get on the internet and find better products at half the cost.

IT workers. I'm yet to meet someone in IT who says they do actual work on the job more than 40% of the time. they're exploiting upper level managements cluelesness in the field.

MLM and pyramid schemes. obvious reasons.

real estate. why should i rent an apt for $700 a month when i can buy a house on a 10 year contract and rent 2 rooms out to pay my rent and eventually make money once it's paid for.

maybe i'm wrong but every idea i have to make money takes advantage of the uninformed and the unambitious.

oops. yeah. but customers works too. if you can make someone believe they need what you're offering at the price you ask then you've outwitted them.

How is this taking advantage of the uninformed????

Are you saying I am being taken advantage of when I go out to eat? Maybe I should learn to cook and make my own food, so I don't have to spend it on others to cook for me.

The people who are paying rent at a house are no nessesarily being taken advantage of, they might not be able to buy their own house.

it's not. i'm just showing how simple it is to cut corners to save/make money. (i don't have a house either, i rent an apt, lol)

Well that's true but outwitting a customer spells doom unless your business is very mobile. Maybe going town to town and doing something like that but you will never establish business roots in a community.

They pounded business ethics into our heads in business school. After having a couple of real jobs, i see why. I have been at my new job for 2 days and have already come up with 100+ ways to screw the company and get ahead if i wanted to. Stupid people have no one to blame but themselves. My new job is not a business, it is a dog and pony show.

And there still is a difference between being a businessman and a fraud.

Many frauds use the "if he didn´t know what he was doing it is his fault" excuse to calm their conscience.
If someone sells you a used car and claims it never had an accident while in reality it had had one it isn´t business anymore.
Yet these people use the same excuse as used in the thread:
he should have had informed himself.

The world economy thrives on the misinformed. The new motto for business schools should be: If you cannot dazzle them with your brilliance, then baffle them with bullshit. If you can put enough information out then you can sell an iceberg to an Eskimo.
