business/ethics question, need answer soon!!!

long story short, A friend of my roomate has a whole bunch of merchandise that he doesnt really want anymore, and i have a smalltime company that sells the stuff... problem is, my roomate and this guy go way back, and he refuses to charge my roomate anything for the stuff, and of course my roomate refuses to accept that offer... I'm completely willing to pay of course, but that doesnt look like its an option

ive tried explaining it from lots of angles, but nothing is working
anyone got any ideas?
